Did I imagine this or did somebody suggest that his departure from Villa was triggered by a disagreement over Lambert's future, namely he wanted to get rid and Lerner didn't?

I think Dave intimated that that was the case, or at least played a part.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the first chink in the eventual schism.

Meh, I'd say the McLeish and Houllier appointments were worse.

I'm referring to the "first chink" idea. I don't think Paul Lambert's job status was their first dispute.

It may not have been their first disagreement but it was, I believe, their first genuine one.

At least his departure allowed you to stop sticking up for the board at every opportunity, huh?
