I wouldn't object to Weimann up front (in his actual position for once) being supported by Gil behind him as a support striker. Maybe Sinclair and Gabby running the flanks with Delph running on from midfield. Weimann probably deserves a chance to actually play the striker role properly. It's making sure he's supported which is where we've been falling down for ages as a team I think.

Actually, scratch all of that! We need to change how we play in midfield. Lambert could stick Messi up front but he wouldn't see the ball.

It would be pointless launching balls up to benteke anyway as that is meat and drink to Terry Cahill Ivanovich etc. I'd play Weimann as a nr 9 and play into feet with width from Gil and Sinclair to get in behind the FB's.

Unfortunately we don't seem able to pass it to any Villa player's feet, whether up front or out wide.

Interestingly i spoke with 2 Chelsea fans today 1 from reading and 1 from Aylesbury (kind of tells you all you need to know about them) , they both reckon villa would win and they were being genuine . Most odd.

I went to Aylesbury with Rovers for a semi-final, think it was the Bill Dellow in 85/86. Aylesbury didn't have a ground so it was played a Tring. We got chatting to some ICF blokes there, they obviously decided us 15 and 16 year olds weren't worth the bother. Decent chaps, but you just knew they had a nasty streak. It was a relief to just be shown the calling cards rather than being left one.

And there is my incredibly exciting Aylesbury story.

If your going to play that game, play Benteke anyway. He's hardly crap with the ball at his feet. A titchy pair like Weimann and Gil would just get bullied. And as the rest of the team stand round like statues, they'd be scant support for any forward line anyway. We need to ditch this 'pass, then don't move' tactic.

Why do people want Benteke dropped? He's our best player and one of the only ones who can create a goal from nothing. Instead of dropping him, why don't we focus on getting support around him for a change?

Not disputing the fact that he is our most talented player but that shouldnt mean he is undroppable.

He is offering us absolutely nothing at the moment, no movement, absymal touch, not showing for the ball and getting narky with teammates etc

When we had loads of the ball in the first half against Arsenal, he hid pretty much.

Aside from the Man Utd and Spurs games, I cant remember a decent performance from him this season.

Well, plus he saved us from relegation with a goal of his own making at Palace.

Ever the optimist I think we'll win.

Off topic but it's just dawned on me that the worse we become the more I drink before and after the game. 6 or 7 pints before numbs my senses during the game so the reality of it all doesn't kick in and the same or more after ensures I don't watch any television when I eventually get home. Fortunately the day after is a blur with only a fleeting memory of the game. In the very distant past when we had a modicum of success and belief it was 2 or 3 before and a swift couple after to ensure I could watch any highlights.
