Very slowly this team is coming together. The defence is fine Clark and Okore have had a number of very good performances together. Hutton,
who in my opinion should be captain, has been on his game all season and Cissokho is a very competent defender. The midfield is gradually solving its problems Sanchez has made a big difference,Delph is an England international, Gil looks as if he could be a big success and yesterday Cleverley showed signs of what he could be capable of. Up front Weimann finally looked the part whilst Benteke didn't. He has no competition for the centre forward role but Lambert needs to have words with him and quickly.

But we still need a creator/winger to add to the options.

I need to print this off and read it over and over when we are three down to Arsenal at half time next weekend to stop myself getting annoyed..!!!

I know Bacuna was hit-and-miss yesterday, but I think he's a potentially very good player. He's always looking forward and trying to create stuff. His ball to Hutton for the second goal was superb. I think given a run of games in the side he could be a big player for us.

The other thing I took from yesterday is that I still think left-back is a problem area for us. I know Richardson didn't have a great game, but it was nice to see somebody playing there who looked to take possession of the football and manoeuvre it forward. Whenever Cissokho gets the ball he seems to just want to off-load it as soon as he can. In an ideal world we'd have kept hold of Bertrand. Bennett supposedly played well for Brighton yesterday, could he still have a future with us...?

He was getting some ridiculous stick on the match thread but I agree.

I like Bacuna as well. He seemed to give us a bit of balance in the second half yesterday.

Just seen this on twitter for the first time (most have probably already seen it) but my god, it's made me up for the cup. I know we won't make it in the end - it's the Villa - but I really wish we would.

That was fantastic and had me grinning from start to finish - thanks for posting

Quote
Paul Lambert felt his side thoroughly deserved to get through to the fifth round of the FA Cup - as he also spoke glowingly about the glorious goals of Carles Gil and Andreas Weimann in the 2-1 win.

Lambert was delighted with the display - especially in the second half - of his players as they saw off the Championship summit side in B6.

He was thrilled with the performance and purred at the quality of both efforts from Gil and Weimann.

He said: "I am delighted to go through. I thought we deserved it. I thought we were fantastic.

"They were two unbelievable goals - the first one was world-class. Carles is a real talent.

"And Andi's goal, with the timing and movement, was excellent.

"In the second half we were a lot better. I thought we dominated the game. We looked lively.

"Bournemouth are a good side but we were very good in the second half.

"I thought the middle of the pitch was too congested in the first half. We changed it at half-time and played a different system.

"I thought it worked great for us. Bournemouth came and put five in the middle. They normally don't do that. There was not much space so that's why I changed it at half-time.

"I put Carles wider and it stretched the game. We looked really good in the second half.

"The lads have had a hard time and been criticised a lot but I thought they deserved a lot of credit for the way they played today. I thought they were excellent.

"They were playing against a team who have been winning a lot of games."

Lambert admits he'd love more progress in the world's most cherished domestic cup competition.

He continued: "You saw the results in the FA Cup yesterday. Many, many teams went out from the Premier League. We are through and we have a chance of it.

"We have a chance like everyone else, the other teams that are going to be in it.

"You get a good draw and get a bit of luck on that given day and hopefully you get through another tie.

"Before you know it you're not far from it. But now, I am delighted to get through. I thought we deserved to win the game."

In other positive news, Fabian Delph signed a new four-and-a-half year deal with the claret and blues - although he missed out against the Cherries through injury, along with Gabby Agbonlahor.

He added: "Fabian pulled up yesterday. He had a little bit of an achilles problem.

"Gabby was the same with his hamstring.

"Hopefully those two will be back next week."

That's the thing... we have a got a few half decent players... just not being set up very well or being told to play in a positive manner.

Clark, Okore, Hutton and Andi I thought all put in a good shift, then of course there's Gill, lets hope he continues like he has started.
Reference a Captain, take the arm band of I want away Cardboard and give it straight to Delph, it may also help him cut out some of his reckless tackles.
Well done Villa, tiny steps, but tiny steps forward not backward.

I would like another striker at the club to offer competition and options to Benteke

Start saving for the eighth one, Brigada.

Me, my husband, & Mike Jeffries & his mum are all in this photo!

As for bournemouth fans, the first time I heard them, ironically, was when they sung 'Is this a library?'. They are having a a good season, they brought a big following, I don't wish them any ill, but as a group of lower league fans coming here for a cup game, they don't rate amongst the noisiest or most consistently 'up for it' I have seen by a very long way.
Thought The Brigada guys were great again.
Problem for the Bournemouth fans was probably that most of them hadn't been to a Bournemouth away game before.  And, because they're top of the Championship and used to  winning (The meedja had told them they were gonna win!) they didn't quite know how to respond to not doing so.
Whereas WE know exactly how to deal with not winning!
;-)

I popped onto one of their forums and it was the usual, Villa Park is great and their fans were amazing with ours appalling....

Yes Paul, you see it now. Why isn't it evident in all games you should be asking yourself.  Movement up front will result in more chances and goals.
