knowing Villa we'll likely lose this, or win, maybe even draw

You don't think it'll get abandoned or postponed then?

Evertheoptimist: we will click on the day and win.

(But we do need every player to turn up and play at 75% potential at least - not like Sat when some players may as well have stayed at home and decorated the tree).

hoping for twister to go through VP as we concede our third and sweep just the Man U team into the abyss. Game gets postponed. Everyone rejoices on multiple levels.

I think we will win this one.

They've won six on the spin and had more jam than Hartleys in the process. The Dippers had enough gilt edge chances to have won that yesterday, which is a similar story to Man Yanited's previous two away games. They're abysmal defensively. There was a point where Markovic (sp) picked up the ball and just ran in a straight line unchallenged for forty yards.

If we don't concede an early goal, I honestly think we will get something.

Did you copy and paste that from last season? ;) Honestly last season they were terrible and we lost 1-7 in two games against them managed by David Moyes in a season when we beat Man. City, Arsenal, Chelsea and outplayed Liverpool when they were battering everyone at Anfield.

I think that shows you how pyschological it is now, as much for them coming to VP as it is for us.

Think they'll win 1-3, can see us going 3-5-2 for this which might make things close in the first half but RVP and Rooney have hit form in recent weeks so just don't see us keeping them out for 98 minutes.

I'm another who's long given up on this fixture. Only regret is I won't be there to experience the orgasm when we finally beat them at VP. Mind you I'll probably be 94 then and enjoying my retirement in Hugh Hefner's mansion!

You're right, it is psychological, and it is a mindset that has totally permeated the the Villa Park crowd, for the best part of a decade (maybe more), too.  Is there another fixture in the top flight where the negative vibes of defeatism flow out so readily from the  home support?  Man Utd must take to the field feeling as though they are a goal up before the ball has  been kicked - even when we are in the lead you can feel a psychological wilting from everyone in claret and blue.  It's a strange one.  Eventually this ridiculous (and, frankly, embarrassing) sequence will end.

I reckon we will hold out for up to 8 minutes...

Lowton will come in for Hutton, but I am unsure as to whether I would bring Vlaar back in. Clark has been playing well, but I think we should be picking our best players, so it's a toss up as to what we do at the back.

I would have Sanchez and Delph as a deep two and then bring Bacuna and Grealish into the side to play as an advanced midfield three with Gabby, behind Benteke. N'Zogbia should be dropped and while I feel the same applies to Gabby, I don't see who can come in and replace him.

It would be important that those three hit the box and get close to Benteke, with two quick wider players trying to stop their wing backs/full backs getting forward. I think Man United are very susceptible at the back and pace will cause them big problems.

As poor as Man Utd look at the back, they do tend to play five across the middle so it's important we don't get outnumbered in there. One option is five at the back with three center halves and two wing backs (Lowton and Cissoko). Or maybe, 4-5-1, with Clark in the midfield with Delph and Sanchez and Gabby and Grealish trying to support Benteke. Whatever we end up doing though, it's going to be tough.

Make no bones about it Lambert will send us out to not take a tonking, he will accept a 2/3-0 defeat no injuries and go to Swansea to play for a draw. Sitting completely back against these will get us fucked, we need to get amongst them and put pressure on there dodgy defence.
