Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have each been fined £20,000 by the Football Association for failing to control their players.

It follows an incident during their Premier League match at Villa Park on 2 November - which Tottenham won 2-1.
The FA charge  stated that in or around the 66th minute, the clubs failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.

Both clubs accepted the standard penalty fine.

Villa striker Christian Benteke was sent off after he pushed a hand into Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason's face.

Television replays appeared to show Mason also pushing his head into the face of Benteke before referee Neil Swarbrick dismissed him.

Villa were leading 1-0 at the time of the incident but goals from Nacer Chadli and Harry Kane helped Tottenham come from behind to win.

That's another seat in the White Elephant Dome paid for...

I might suggest a grand if it be set aside to send Mr Swarbrick on an assertiveness course them he might actually try and control the situation....and a couple of hundred on a trip to Specbleedingsavers

What's annoying about this is that we've been punished twice for this despite only really 1 player being involved, they had 3-4 players involved and have only had 1 punishment for it.  The sooner football wakes up and introduces a citing officer the better.  I'm seriously fed up of the FA blindly backing the ref even when they get things so badly wrong.

Would the managers or coaching staff of either side been allowed on the pitch to control the players anyway?

They expect that to be done in advance Clampy.
Pity they don't use the same approach with shite refs!
