One of beelzebub's in his hatrick against us was quite good as I recall.

His chip from the edge of the area was good. Hat-trick against us as QPR's player manager and he took himself off pretty much as soon as he scored his third. The bastard.

We were winning 1-0 as well.

3rd Division.
Villa vs Torquay
My 4th game.

Villa dominate the game for 89 minutes (seemed that way)
Torquay make a break away, and Jimmy Cave sticks it in the back of the net from 25 yards

Was that the one we won 5-1? Brian Little's debut?

No, Mal.
Was our first season in Div 3 and we lost 0-1  :-[

I was at that game and strangely enough I can still recall my dad asking a bloke with a radio on the bus home who had scored for Torquay and the name Mickey Cave stuck in my mind.  John Dunn didn't bother diving as he knew he had no chance. I didn't realise it was 89th minute though.

To this day Mickey Cave is the only Torquay player I could ever name.
To be honest, Pat, it may have been Mickey Cave, not Jimmy.
It was late in the game when he scored. It certainly felt like the 89th as the time flew by after.
I might try and find out. Knowing my memory it was probably in the first half  :-[

7th November 1970 .Mickey Cave it was. Definitely second half (must have lost the toss- they scored at The Holte End). Took them to third place and us fourth.

Cheers Godfrey. I genuinely had forgotten that Torquay were up there with us at the top of the table.

Didn't they get relegated that season, after a bright start?

There was Jon Hurley's thunderbastard for Fulham at Loftus Rd. A classic "oh for fuck's sake" moment.

Only away game I've ever been to with my Parents.  We were one-nil up after about 30 secs.  Dodgy penalty as well I seem to remember.

Cracking strike though.

Bit like the Shelvey goal last season from the half way line ...

Back in October 85, attacking the Holte, a young Nigel Clough for Forest was attacking down the right and from over 20 yards out with even looking like he was going to do anything, hit the ball with the outside of his foot sending the ball into the top lefthand corner to score the winner. Absolutely superb goal.

We lost 2-1, Gibson scoring for us with Brendan Ormsby managing to score an own goal.

OK here is one. See if anyone remembers:

Match against QPR in the second division mid 70's. QPR have a good team and win promotion that season. Free kick to QPR about 5 yards outside the area fairly central. Terry Venables takes it and lifts the ball right over our wall in a loop fashion. Gerry Francis who had taken up a position by the side of our wall turns around  and volleys it into the net. Terrific goal as MON would say!

I remember that one, Olaftab.

It was the winner as well -our first home defeat in eleven months.

The next few games will give us a better idea of the progress made at the back.

I think that was very good QPR team.
