I think if Blyth had gotten a better tie than they did.
The beeb would have gone as Cinderella story as they possibly could with the coverage.

Unfortunately Blyth had to make do with the ugly sisters.

After the FA Cup taking over the BBC's normal programming for most of the weekend, it was very odd to pick an all premiership tie and also that Five Live had hardly any coverage of the games... I guess it's better than the ongoing St£vie M£ obituary on Sky.

They've probably given hiim Man Of The Match already for tomorrow.

Even though they had a better chance of winning than if they'd played a proper club.

I Get the impression the bbc are oblivious to how devalued the FA cup has become.

Okay, and this will hopefully be my last word on the subject. On what planet would a game in January 2013 be part of the way "we are currently playing"?

Mars. A year there lasts 687 days so the best part of two years in Earth time. Do I win a prize? And we've lost to a Premiership side (Spurs) more recently in a cup competition than the Bradford and Millwall unpleasantness so let's stop being selective about our manifold inadequecies.
Current cup form comes no fresher than Orient and Sheff Utd. Even on Mars .

Well we struggled to a very late win against a team who Blues have more than double the league points of. Is this evidence current enough that we would have enough to easily get past Blues?

I think the BBC assumes their TV audience wants to watch "name" players they see on motd,
far more than a potential upset.
It would be nice for them to trust football supporters a bit more in that regard, but it won't happen.

Remind me how easily Blues beat a team from the Northern Premier League.

You asked for some current evidence and you have been told. You've shifted the arguement now.

Has there always been such an obsession with 'upsets'? It's been building over the last few years, maybe in an attempt to convince everyone it's as big a competition as it ever was.  The upset yesterday was there was no upset.

They don't really happen anymore, because every potential upset is anticipated and highlighted in advance.  So it's not really an upset.

I haven't shifted anything and haven't been told anything either. We won, so did they, against much weaker opposition than we played. Both games are as relevant to the argument, such as it is, as each other.

They did actually beat Small Heath recently.

David Moyes is injury time away from beating Barcelona right now.

The original discussion was Villas ability to beat lower league oppo. You asserted they hadn't played any recently, we did today and struggled. The team we struggled against have less than HALF the points of blues and yet you reckon the Blues would be an easy draw, ignoring, on top of everything else, how they'd raise their game against us. Blues vs Blythe is of little relevance compared to when they'd play us, they'd raise their game massively.

We can move the argument on to whether the Blues are shit, against neutral opposition, but since Rowlett took over I'd say their form has been strong compared to ours.

Good for Moyes. My pal is an Evertonian and he was quick to list many of his failings so soon after leaving. He thought Bobby Martinez was a messiah but he is sailing troubled waters right now. Moyes did a remarkable job at Everton and could have done with us.

Coquelin just booked for a challenge very similar to Delph's, started high and came down late and caught the guy on the foot, unsurprisingly it was only a yellow.
Exactly what I saw and thought.
