Chelsea held by a weakened Schalke team. Not a great week for English teams.

Forest 2 Fulham 1 after 23".  Heading for 6/7 league defeats. Ooh crikey, ooh carrots, ooh crumbs. That could be Goodbye, Penfold.

As you were. 0-2 down, 3-2 up but then 3-5 down. Auf Wiedersehen, FM.

Brilliant to see City lose like that.

Brilliant to see City lose like that.

Also good to see a proper celebration. None of that muted celebration after scoring against your old team for Boateng.

Such a shame as Pardew seems a really nice bloke.

Quote
A group of Newcastle United supporters are planning what could be one of English football’s biggest ever fan protests during Saturday’s Premier League match against Hull City.

The people behind the website SackPardew.com claim they have 200 anti-Alan Pardew banners and up to 15,000 A4-sized cards, which demand the manager lose his job.

And they will be taken into St James’ Park this weekend with or without the club’s permission.

They also have a protest van that will tour some of the area’s most famous landmarks, including the Angel of the North, before the match.

The anonymous group, who say they have raised £1000 through donations for the protest, contacted the Chronicle and spoke to us exclusively after using social media to drop hints about their plans, which they hope will oust Pardew from his job and bring change to the club at least in the short-term.

Such a blatant protest inside the stadium during a game will not be welcomed by every Newcastle fan and it remains to be seen whether this actually takes off the ground as the organisers hope. However, the group told us that they believed they enjoy the backing of most supporters.

They said: “We have 200 banners, similar in size to the ones you saw at Southampton on Saturday, that are currently being completed at printers around the city.

“They are small enough to conceal so we can get them into the stadium, but we don’t want to go down that road.

“We have contacted the club to let them know our plans and are still waiting to hear back from them.

“The Hatem Ben Arfa banner (who had him dressed as Che Guevara over the word ‘hope’) at the Crystal Palace match was ours.

“The club gave us permission as long as it wasn’t offensive and that we had a fire safety certificate, which we have for all 200 banners.

“We have also let the police and council know our plans. We want this to be peaceful and well-organised.”

The leaflets are a parody of Sports Direct’s logo that incorporates the SackPardew.com group. The organisers told us that they have many pubs in the city involved.

Fans who want to join in the protest will be able to collect a banner or the cards at these locations, which the group hope to announce over the next 48 hours.

The group said: “We are trying to do something different.

“A lot has happened under the Mike Ashley era, but we’ve always felt that whenever there was a protest, the personalities involved sidelined what it was about in the first place.

“We believe remaining anonymous will help us make more of an impact.”

Don't forget that Pardew saw off the Pants Protest at Reading.

So four Premier League teams in the CL.

Two defeats, one draw and a last minute winner against a team that were amateurs four years ago.

Best league in the World apparently.

Because they just aren't that great. They will always be good enough to roll over most of the very average teams from about seventh downwards in the Premier League which is, in effect, just one big relegation battle and so get hyped up beyond belief by Sky and the media in general. Champions League and the World Cup always brings a very sobering perspective, not least the fact that overseas stars playing in the premier league suddenly don't look so good as the hype suggests when thrust on to the world stage. Apart from Vlaar, which was totally unexpected, and one or two others, they all looked distinctly ordinary in the World Cup.

Anyone still want Ole as our manager? Facing the sack today apparently...

I always thought the argument for the Premier League being the best in the world was because most games are competitive. Most games are near capacity and even a side fighting to survive can beat one of the top sides. Whereas somewhere like Spain for example, Barca and Real walk over most teams in most games and only a handful of teams can attract a respectable crowd size.

People get hung up on their definition of 'best' thinking it means best quality.

To me it means best to watch, which the PL obviously is, as evidenced by its world-wide TV revenue.
