Duties of the clubs under rule 4.01 d) is to play in the competition until they are eliminated and to field their strongest team throughout.

Unenforceable in my view, in which case why have the rule?

There should be a rule that in the event of a breach the culprit should be disqualified and the previous winners of the competition in their domestic league who appear earliest in the alphabet should be instated into the competition in their place, and should automatically qualify for the next 5 years as well.

I think Man U might've been fined once for playing the reserves in a defeat in Israel when they were already through.

Toure off. City down to 9 men. Feel sorry for Milner though.

Roma will be feeling very relieved at City's collapses against CSKA. Currently 9-1 down on aggregate, so to speak, against Bayern.

So the PL champions humbled. Arsenal shambles last night and let's not mention Liverpool. May be the PL is not as good as Scudmissile and Sky keep telling us?

Have to laugh at Citeh. Spent about £600 million and are at the bottom of their Champions League group.

...again.  Even Spurs managed to get to the quarters(?) in their only season in the competition, so I don't buy all this 'time to adapt' bollocks.

City need some steel in their team.  They are ok when things are going their way but when the going gets tough, they collapse.

Slightly off topic i know but Berahino had made it into the england squad, which is deserved I reckon. Walcott has played about half hour's football in 6 months and he's in as well which is bloody ridiculous. Oh and Downing's in as well. Hmm.

Downing makes sense. He's the best performing English player in his position at the moment, so it's good that players are being picked on their club form.

Walcott coming in would probably be a bit of a kick in the teeth to the likes of Nathan Dyer, but based on his most recent club performances (even though their were a long time ago) he's probably the best player in that position. You'd think that it would make sense to use somebody more in form though.

Berahino's call up is well deserved. I just wish that he'd credited his success to his own hard work and that of his coaches.

EDIT - my original post referred to the way that Berahino gave credit in his initial tweet. I've just listened to his subsequent radio interview and was pleased to hear him crediting his family and coaches.

I didn't know Carrick had been called up as well? He's only played a couple of games since he's been back. It's a bit of a farce really.
