I think the comparison to Gascoine is the closest for me. Those midfield surges are very Gazzaesque.

I think Jack is now at the stage where he’d make most people’s best-ever Villa XI.

He’s got a Chris Waddle about him ( better hairdo) .....

Same comparison I made when I first saw him in the youth team, great balance, can beat you on either side without being noticable quick.

Mersons one footed nature was actually not an issue when you consider he’s ability to use the outside of that right foot - I’ve never seen a footballer cross a ball with with the outside of their foot as
Accurate as Merse.
I loved watching Merse.  Absolutely one of my all time favourite Villa players.

Better than Cowans and Morley? I don't think so.

He wouldn’t get on the bench in mine, yet. Give it a few years and he might.

I like him, but he'd be nowhere near getting in mine.

Cowans was just sublime. I never really got to see Little but from everything I've heard.... Shaw was magical... Merse was pretty good too.

Thise are the sorts of players Grealish should be looking to emulate. I think, with the talent he has, he can do it but he's not there yet. He's certainly the most talented player we've had for a long time though.

The comparisons are a bit harsh in that most of the other legends played at least some of the time in a successful team with mostly other top players of their day.  Jack has played most of his games for us in the Championship with some less than stellar team mates.

What we sometimes seem to forget is players like Gary Shaw and Tony Morley was playing most weeks on cowpat pitches at places like Forest, Stoke and Cov. Could you just imagine watching these players now on the carpets of the premier league?

What Jack has that stands out from anyone else I've seen play for us is the appearance of having all the time in the world to decide what he wants to do. That calm control of everything is why he gets so many fouls and why it looks like the ball is on a string.

I've likened him to Zidane a number of times and I'm sticking with it, another season or 2 and I think that comparison will be common.
