On Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish's exclusion:

"Grealish is a very good player - I've watched him closely this season. He played very well against Brighton. The reality is he's up against Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

"Jack is a very good player and very close. Any issues with the squad and I wouldn't hesitate to call him up."

If that's true picking Rashford ahead of him is a sure sign that he's not picking on form and Hudson-Odoi, whilst hugely talented, is nowhere near ready for England.

With no more international matches until March, I wonder if this ends Jackís hopes of playing at Euro 2020. I hope not but itís not looking good for him.

Ross Barkley, Winks, Rice in midfield? Southgate has gone down in my estimation. At least Jack won't get injured!

Rashford has scored 4 in his last 5 appearances, and usually plays well enough for England so that's a bit unfair.

I don't think any England squad is ever picked purely on form. Southgate is bound to show some loyalty to players who have performed well for him in the past.

Totally agree on Hudson-Odoi.

Jack is better than anybody in that England squad, in my unbiased opinion.

It was always going to require patience but this is disappointing from Southgate. If Jack is in his plans for next summer then he should have started to integrate him into the squad and get him used to the England setup whether he was going to play next week or not. Still not too late for Jack and the comments are encouraging but itís a poor decision.

Why is John Stones back in the squad? Most Man Citeh fans think he's rubbish.

You twat, Southgate.

Goofy twat. Why is he up against the wingers when he's twice the player of that lumbering gimp Barkley?
