He needs to get booked next week so he can miss the Liverpool cup game. Probably his worst game for ages today but he still scored so not all bad.

On 4 yellows? Well that would add to positivity around here, him out for any of our games over xmas. On second thoughts I'd leave him out v Liverpool. Get Jota out of the basement or wherever he's hiding.

Oddly our best performance recently was when he was missing vs Liverpool.

I do wonder whether in our current form some of the players are intent to let Jack try and do something rather than trying to impress themselves more in the game.

We were decent v Liverpool purely because we scored first and had something to cling onto, it was pretty much a backs to the wall job for rest of the game.

Wolves away is more measure of our level without him in so would be big blow if he misses say the Norwich game.

Apparently there's a cut off after Southampton so he just needs to avoid being booked in that game and it won't matter until 10 yellows.

His run up for the pen was a joke.

Reminded me of when Young did one v Arsenal away one year. He missed aswell btw.

Tammy took majority of our penalties last year so it is a bit of a problem we don't have a regular sure fire scorer of them like we did in days of Barry and Milner when it was near enough a certain goal.

Hopefully Jack can improve on them in time or maybe Hourihane will be on the next one.
Well, Wesley has been the pen taker so far; but he'd been subbed.
More concerning was the 'unmissable' header that he should have buried in one of the few bright moments of the second half.

He's wasted on the left: we need his talent in the middle of a slightly narrower midfield. I'm not clear why Smith is playing him quite as he is.

Grealish still has very rough edges when it comes to his finishing. The issue is that we don’t have any strikers who score and el ghazi has the occasional game like today where he may as well not be on the pitch, so we’re essentially relying on goals from a poor finisher.

Sheff Utd stats
*Attacking goal threat and Assists watch *
Goals 0
Big Chances 1
Big Chances missed 1
Penalties taken 1
Penalties missed 1
Shots 4 (2 headers)
Shots in box 3
On Target 0
Touches Total: 47
Opponents Half: 29
Penalty Area Touches:5
Fouls won 3
Chances created 1
Big chances created 0
Assists 0
Crosses 0
Corners taken 0

Didn't take his chances today
Less than 50 touches
Missed  pen
And missed big chance for header
Still gave his all
And fair play for stepping up for the penalty
Thought ref on occasions left him to fry rather than protect him against the fouls only 3 awarded to him.
Sheff Utd shackled him today so wasn't at his creative best.

That's the point though. He is too easy to mark on the left.

Nah, think the ref pretty much got it right.

Jack's wasted out wide on the left. He hasn't got the pace from a standing start to beat people for speed, so when they get tight to him he gets frustrated.  He should be in the middle of the midfield dictating things and going on surging runs into the area.

Everything we try to do comes through him, not difficult to nullify our plan, foul him and block him out.

Of course he should, you are correct.

Shite today and showed no leadership. Only highlights were the horrendous ones in his hair.

Spent most of the game messing with his boots getting grass out of his studs I presume.
He seems less effective on the left when Connor doesn’t play.

Did you see Conors last game before he was subbed?

There are pros and cons to him being out left. When we play him in middle trio at start of the season with two wide players we were far too open and teams were playing through us too easily.

Given Jota has completely disappeared from the 18 we don't really have another player in the squad who can start out wide and drift in to make it a narrower midfield. Maybe a diamond would work better but that would mean two up front.

Let's see how it plays out v Southampton and Norwich at least. They are below us for a reason.
