I don't think I need to remind anyone how good this season was!

Quite traumatic at times but still a lot of good memories in this one.

Thanks for sharing Deano. 94/95 was one of the videos I never purchased. Saunders played a key role right until the end of the season. If he had stayed on in 95/96 I wonder if we could have gone even better than 4th

Does any other team have such contrasting seasons, back to back?

He played a key role alright - he didn't score in his last 12 games. I'll never know why a one goal in three games striker was so idolised.

1 in 3 you say? I'd take that now.

95/96 is my third favourite villa season ever, after 89-90 and my favourite 91-92

The football and the quality of goals was unquestionably the best in 92-93. Probably the only time in my entire villa supporting career where we were genuinely one of the most attractive sides int the country. And it was only a fiver to get in!

In the seven years that I followed us home and away between leaving school and going to work abroad we won promotion, nearly went down, were runners up, nearly went down, finished seventh, were runners up then won a cup. In the following two years I was away (the two years being discussed on this thread) we nearly went down then finished fourth and won a cup.

Scoring two goals to help us beat United in a cup final doesn't do any harm if you want to be fondly remembered. I liked him. I liked his character and thought he worked hard. He also had a decent scoring record and scored some good goals. His home debut wasn't too shabby either.

It was the Villa way as far as I was concerned growing up, my first season was the relegation one.

In my five years at comprehensive school I walked in supporting the champions of Europe and walked out supporting a second division team.

Off set by a year - European Super Cup winners to League runners up with a relegation in between. (I stayed on at 6th form)

Then again The Noses went from Top flight strugglers to Third flight also rans in that time.
