Fairly comfortable in the end. Hull never looked too willing to press us much. We pressed well, worked bloody hard and won convincingly in the end.

Weimann man of the match. Play the lad through the middle and he'll score goals.
Bowery played well too. His best game for the club so far. Like Weimann, responded well to being played in his natural position as opposed to a fill in wide man. He might not be the best player we've ever signed but today showed the benefit of fresh legs. In the last 6 weeks we've run some of these players into the ground and they've needed a rest, and we've needed to freshen things up but haven't. Whilst they may not be fantastic, the likes of Helenius, Tonev, Bowery could have been providing a bit of impetus and energy, and of course a desire to impress.

Everyone else was pretty solid too.

I'd like to see us rest a few players rested in the last two games, and a few of our also-rans and youngsters given the chance to impress.

We may as well give some of the players like Gabby, maybe Delph, Vlaar etc an early holiday and just give 2-3 players the chance to show their worth. Notably Helenius, Tonev, Robinson. If Gardners fit he could do with some chance to show he's worth a new contract.

Why? Apart from Guzan, Delph and Vlaar (when he's felt like it), the team have rarely broken a sweat all season!
I understand what you mean about giving the fringe players a shout, but as for the first team, I'd bloody well do the opposite and cancel their summer holidays!
Ha ha. Well I'd certainly agree a few players haven't really earned their summer holidays. But given we're now safe I'd just be looking at fringe players in advance of next season.
I'd be interested to see Steer get a couple of games. See how he handles things against two big clubs.
I would say in terms of rest, Concrete has earned it and Delph. Delphy's form has been a little off but he always gives 110%.

I would imagine over the course of the summer, whoever is in charge will make some significant changes. A lot of the players in the squad will have to do very well to stay at the club, so I'd give em a go.

Personally I see no use in giving Holt any more game time. Gabby's been half fit for a few weeks now and we all know what he does. We might as well throw Helenius in the squad and give the lad a chance because otherwise he'll likely be shipped off in the summer having not had a fair stab at things.

Lets give Robinson a good wedge of time in the next couple of games too. Get him on with 30 minutes to go.

I think JB has earned himself a starting spot next time out.

Pretty comfortable that in retrospect. Hull were garbage, but we played with a lot of energy and pressed them well.

Bowery really surprised me, he looked decent and played a fantastic ball for he the third. Glad it's all over bar some shouting mid-week and against Spurs.

After the turmoil of Ads' reign, just glad the players put it behind them!

:D

Thank fcuk for that. Must eat a small slice of humble pie - when Gabby was subbed by Bowery I had a head-in-hands-is-that-the best-we've-got moment and the lad proved me wrong - he made some great runs and his all round play was really good. Maybe there's a player in there after all.

Exactly what I said to myself.I would have give Bowery man of the match, he ran his bollox off and changed the game.

Weimann played well especially after Gabby went off, but he owed us something... as did they all.  Hull proved  ideal opponents and seemed half way down Wembley Way but a good win nonetheless after mostly very forgettable football all season.

Also, well done to the Cobblers for retaining their League status.

Seconded.

A lot has been said of JB. Honestly my reaction to him coming on was a shake of the head and desperate look to the skies, but he surprised me.
Whether we think he's got what it takes long term is another matter but I don't think Lambert has always done the lad too many favours by playing him out wide. We signed him as a CF.
Today was the first time I remember JB getting played through the middle and he looked a different player.
He held it up well. He looked bright running at people. He pulled to both flanks well and he was tidy with possession. His assist was very good too. If he can keep that up, he may well have a future here because he's got some attributes and actually, though there's been much clamour for Robinson, JB actually looks readier to jump in at this present time.

I was very impressed with JB and to be honest he offered more today than Holt has since joining. Aside from standing on the spot for an unmarked header to score, Holt has offered little. Not his fault, he just doesn't suit our side, and doesn't have the legs any more. What we saw from JB today was an option we've needed since Benteke has been injured. A strong figure who can lead the line, bring others into play and also someone who can chase down defenders, run the channels and pose a threat in behind. Holt can do two of those things but not the more mobile aspects.

First of all:Thank f*** for that!
Secondly: Hull were absolutely pants, but at last most things went right for us today.
The main positive for me is that we actually played people in their proper positions, and we got the rewards for attacking instead of sitting back (apart from the last 15 or so minutes). At one point in the second half Lowton acually looked like the player from last season, excellent performances from Bertrand, Vlaar, Baker and even Clark in defence, Delph ran his socks off and Westwood looked accomplished for most of the game. But for me Bowery was a masterstroke and proves conclusively that Paul Lambert is a tactical genius. (Only joking) !
Weimann had his good game eventually and we scored the goals at vital stages in the match, so let's relax and plan properly for next season. Do the right thing for our great club Mr. Lerner!
UTV!!!

Just back from the game via The Eddy's . Job done , lock the season down and consign it into outer space. It's been a poor season but we soldier on. Well done today to Bowery , thought he was superb. I also thought Nathan Baker did really well, the 2nd crucial goal was all down to him and he defended like an Ox today. Superb.

... I'm still not certain what formation we started out with but we got the shock (lucky)goal...
I understand 'shock' but why was the first goal lucky? Although Albie fresh-aired the first shot-opportunity it was well-worked and well taken.

And, the starting formation was 3-5-2 as far as I could see.

Have to say that Bowery was great today, fair play to him.
Also, as others have said, the Ian Taylor moment was brilliant. There's a pic somewhere out there of him standing up to applaud the Holte, great stuff.
Now let's batter Man City & Spurs!
