I'm from Northamptonshire and we'd say, "crash the ash" for, "may I have one of your delicious cigarettes?"

Crash a fag was also common growing up in Leicester

In Redditch, crash a chud meant, "please may I have a chewing gum"

Maybe it's a north Brummie thing? The moment anyone produced any kind of confectionary, the cry of 'crashes' would always ring out.

From my childhood, I also recall the phrase 'narted' and 'nart ups' meaning to be proved wrong or shamed in some way, but my southern Brummie pals have never heard of it.

In 1970s and 80s Hall Green, "crash the rocks" was common parlance, so not north brum only.

'Narted' and 'gansey', though, I've never heard
Not heard of any of these, despite my upbringing in Shirley / Hall Green.
Crash the ash was common parlance, though; as was bostin', for 'great'.

chewing gum was 'chong' at my school but as someone who hated the stuff it's never a term I've used myself.

The other common brummie one that I've had to train myself out of is island instead of roundabout.  I much prefer our term but it causes far too many blank stares to be useful outside the city.

Never heard of Gansey. That's a new one.
Crash the rock - yep always at school.
Outdoor - nowhere outside of the B postcode do they know that that is.
An Island - Roundabout everywhere else

Round my ex's way they used to say ''squiy us a boss end''. Not sure if it's spelt right, it's barely English.

Round Stourbridge there was "bost us a nail" - as in coffin nail

"Twos" indicated half a fag
"DB" (Decent Bit) about a third
"Letters" not much at all

This is in Shrewsbury circa late 1990s/early 2000s

I have somewhere, a little booklet called, Mekyerselfatum.  I can't recall who compiled it but, it's a small glossary of Brummie/Black Country slang/ derivations.  There's some Bosin words in it.  I'll see can I find it.

"Give us your dog", is the only one I can remember about asking to share. With the addition of, "... and don't DA [duck's arse] it!" if they were liable to make the filter soggy... Happy, disgusting days!

Agree. other ones I've had to lose:

tuthbrush/paste
forrid - forhead
pop - any fizzy soft drink
gambol
is tha - is there
cob - roll/sub

there are more but that's just off the top of me yed.

Two expressions I still use in defiance of glares of diagnosis of yampyness are "going up town" (off to the city centre) and "end" (neighbourhood) as in "G e r r u p  y o w e r own end" meaning go home.  Sorry about the letter spacing, predictive spelling is spoiling for a fight.

And nobody I have ever met  other than a Brummie knows what a pikelet is.  Or pigs pudding.
