As I said on another thread, with Randy in charge, I honestly don't think we have bottomed out yet, found our level as a club.  I fear for the worst that we'll be out of the top league for some time to come.  I hope not.

We have become an inconvenience to him.  They have appointed a non football chairman that is clearly in it to penny pinch from his first words to go with our other non football board of directors. Any hope I had for Garde rebuilding us and bringing us back in a different image with a clear footballing plan are gone.  He won't get chance.  We are fucked. We are acting like the smallest club in the league.

When you compare where Man City are to what where we are going. I know it is an extreme case, but shows the reality of modern football.

In fairness even in the context of modern football we a spectacularly badly run club. Just think Stoke are a decent mid-table club, fucking Stoke.

I dont enjoy agreeing with you. But I do. It has been silly to compare us to Leeds or Forest in the past. It doesn't seem so silly now.

I don't think either of those are fair comparisons.

Leeds massively gambled stupid money on sustaining Champions League football and very nearly went completely under, they still haven't recovered from that. Villa are penny-pinching before the worst happens, we may not like the inevitable outcome of relegation but the club won't go bust.

Forest are a medium sized provincial club who massively over-achieved due to a management team I doubt we'll ever see the likes of again, they have settled back at their "normal" level.

Forrest suffered from Platt going crazy with the cheque book too if I recall and have been bobbing around financial problems ever since until their recent takeover.

We're not going bust, but its clear the owner isn't willing to (a) run the club properly or (b) show even a modicum of ambition. That has been the case since August 2010 and we've been on the slow boat to relegation ever since.

We'd have been better off going down in 2011 under Houllier, as it might have accelerated some sort of positive change or at the very least ended the torture of utter garbage we've been subjected to ever since, with this proverbial death by a thousand cuts that Lerner's incompetence has inflicted on us.

Ironically, we probably have the correct board structure in place to act like a modern football club, we just appear to have a CEO whose only interest is in marketing and revenue streams [who'd have thought that from Arsenal's chief commercial officer] and he's appointed people like Reily and Almsadt into positions that, much like him, appear to be way above their level of competence.

The jury is still out on Hollis, but given the way the past three weeks have gone, if he's anything other than our de facto adminstrator, then I'd be very surprised.

Meanwhile genuinely Mickey Mouse nothing clubs, with tin pot grounds, tin pot histories and woodwork crawling support like Stoke, Palace, Leicester and Watford [for fucks sake, its a whose who of shit clubs] put us to shame with their ability to compete.

If any good comes from our relegation, it will hopefully be the asking price being slashed and Lerner being railroaded out of town. Even Carson Yeung managed to deliver a trophy en route to oblivion.

I think you have hit the nail squarely on the head there Ads when you describe Hollis as our de facto administrator.  In Lerner's comic book brain he has Fox in place to bring the money in, Hollis to stop the money going out and what's his name, the French guy, to look after the soccer.

But that is what I truly do not understand Brian and Ads, as stated by others it costs money to stand still in the premier league, in fact the Villa are proof that it can cost money to go backwards, but surely speculate to accumulate this season above all others.

I have chewed on this all day today and I have come to the conclusion, the results have not improved as they thought, they do not have sufficient faith in Remi and as there is a total lack of football understanding by those in positions of power, they cannot see the shoots of improvement, that he is just beginning to install some discipline into the rabble he inherited and they are forcing his hand and are quite happy to replace with who ever their scrambled brains will come up with next. It's the only answer I can come up with, scary but otherwise I am stumped.

This is what I fear. Those who think next season will see a rebirth of the club I think are in cloud cuckoo land as in my opinion we're going to continue to spiral into decline until Lerner finally sells.
Let's just hope there's someone out there with the cash to buy us AND actually care about the club.

We have been a cost cutting club since the latter part of the 19th century. George Ramsey was made manager in 1886 and found he had to run in the Secretary role as well for 42 years. He must have been the original 'multitasker'.

My positive take is relegation will make us a much cheaper option for someone and will see people become interested in taking over more so than now.

Anyone looking to invest will get us for under 100mil in the championship and only have to look at Leicester and Watford to see what can be achieved with a decent if not huge outlay

Or Lerner may think "let's see if we can get out of here in a season and if that happens our value will rise, then I can sell"
