That's not how Lerner and co work though. We wouldn't have appointed a Sporting Director if a takeover was likely as they would want their own people.

From what little I do know, a prospective buyer would need to spend a couple of million quid just to undergo the due diligence bit so whoever it was wasn't tyre kicking. People don't just walk away if they've invested this much at the drop of a hat. Don't rule anything out yet.

There's always the chance that they could come back, like Randy did. I don't know about a couple of million but it's certainly not something to be taken lightly. At the end of the day, if the due diligence found something that they didn't like, they would consider the due diligence worthwhile for stopping them spending a lot more.

I agree with you Ron.   Just like I now believe the entire Delph hokey cokey, putting his whole self in then his whole self out, in, out, in, out (and so forth) was an constructed negotiating gambit by his agents to screw out of Man City not only the maximum wages for Delph but equally importantly game time guarantees and maybe even a release clause.   Instinctively I feel that there is a preferred buyer whose current negotiating stance is "we are looking at other investments" to which Randy Lerner responds "we are perfectly happy to go along as we are, I am not desperate to sell".   I believe the slow pace of what we expected to happen quickly in the summer may well have been caused by the black cloud that descended during the Southampton, Burnley, Arsenal period.   That will pass. Sideways now that we have Wilkins on the payroll.

Perhaps they got to find out all our best stars (assets) were leaving with Delph certainly going for about £20m below market value, thus say a £150m bid may have been adjusted to £130m to which Lerner said no.

That doesn't make sense on so many levels.

And that's a surprise because?

whatever is true from the above, we need investment on the pitch , like now. So Randy if there isn't a take over needs that team to at least hold its position in the premier league to protect as much of his investment as possible.

Not necessarily. Jez Moxey survived new Wolves owners and Steve Stride was kept on when Randy arrived.

I don't think Steve Stride lasted longer than a few months but he was a long standing employee. My point was if we were in the latter stages of a takeover, why would you make a high level appointment? Why not just wait until you know one way or the other? My educated guess (educated because Sherwood's comments support it) would be that for whatever reason the deal broke down and the contingency plan kicked in.

Hopefully I'm wrong or they come back to the table.

Speaking of which what happened with that West Brom takeover that was going to turn them into Real Madrid? Was it related to us in anyway? I thought the same dude was meant to be looking at both clubs?

Surprised the media haven't been asking questions and dissing us for not finding a buyer.  Or, perhaps, they have been warned off legally.

The fact that we're talking about having a contingency plan must indicate some form of progress, of the pitch at least.

You learn more from your mistakes than your successes. So the board should be a lot better after all the mistakes they've made.

As things stand we are in profit this summer, probably to the tune of 22-23m (29 for benteke, 8 for Delph, 3 for weimann and 1 for Sylla minus 9 for Amavi, 2.5 for Sinclair and 7 for Gueye) I have a feeling we won't spend more than another 22m on 2-3 players and probably break even. I may be wrong but I don't think shunamite Steve has changed anything....
