We've spent £21.5 million and recouped £11.5 million, so we aren't just spending what we bring in.

But let's be honest, a net spend of 10m is hardly cause celebration just yet.

Let's see what other business we do.

But it doesn't take a genius to work out Benteke is on his way out.
If we spend £40m+ I'll be impressed.

But Lerner normally gave Lambert around £20m to spend and maybe Sherwood now had the Delph money as well.

And just as importantly it seems like we're paying wages that attract decent players.

It's easy to say when it's not your money.

I think that's a bit harsh.

It's not our money, and that makes it easy to say, yes it does, but that's exactly the same for every single other conversation about transfers or wages at any club you care to mention, too.

I have a strong feeling that the proposed takeover may be very much on. This coming Monday is the final day for the proposed buyer's,whoever they might be, to declare their intentions. We have only heard from Tim Sherwood, who might be under instructions from above. Nothing at all from Randy Lerner or Tom Fox or anyone of note.

10mil for Amavi doesnt equate to Randy's way of thinking. Neither does putting in a bid of 9mil for Embolo. I dont know. Far more respected posters than me will state very good reasons why this takeover is 'as dead as a Delph'  oops sorry dodo, but I think we could be in for shock news maybe even next week.

Aren't we just spending the cash generated from sales? I know Benteke hasn't gone yet but it looks like it.

To be honest SH Im not sure of anything. But something is not adding up. We shall see.
I tell you what is adding up, it seems our best 2 players will leave within days of one another. That's not a sign we about to be bought by Oracle, Carlos Slim or the 28th richest man in China. I suspect next week will come and go and we will hear nothing.

We've also just signed one of the top rated young defenders in europe, so right now we've lost 1 good player and signed another, given they're isolated events they add up to nothing and we won't be able to add anything up until we see what other business we do, the links (other than the lazy Townsend and Adebayor ones) seem to be people in the 8-12m bracket, mostly highly rated youngsters in decent leagues,if this is the pattern for signings then I'll be very happy with our summer even if we've lost a few of our better players from the last few years, relegation battles unfortunately make it tough to keep players around when they have other options.

If we end up breaking even I will be disappointed. I really hope he gets the usual 20m a new manager gets plus the sales.

It sounds counter-intuitive but he club, the fans, need some new heroes so losing Benteke and Delph may not be the end of the world if it provides the cash to reinvent ourselves.

I hope he gets in the players he wants and needs however much it costs and what the net spend is.

It's easy to say but it's true. I've no idea what Micah Richards is on but at a guess, maybe let's say at the most £50k a week. That's nearly £2.5m a year and that's just one player. It's got to come from somewhere and that's kind of my point.

I think we should be getting at least 25m net spend with the money from TV

Have we not freed up something like 14 million in wages

Seeing as there is no takeover, shouldn't this thread be closed now?

Speculate to accumulate and all that.
Ambition. Let's show a bit. Remember our chairman is stinking rich and no one held a gun to his head and forced him to buy us.

Lerner has been let down by a certain manager IMO and is scared now. This manager seems to look further than up north for talents like Beye, would be great if he backed him. Loving the signings so far, and let him do far more

The buck stops with the man at the top. Blaming O'Neill 5 years after he left is quite laughable.
