Well we have had four years of austerity at the Villa and if Randy stays which looks likely now we could well be having another shit season battling to stay up due to lack of investment.

Alternatively we've just signed a player for £9 million, it sounds like we might be signing another for £9 million and Micah Richards has come in on big wages. It seems different to the last few summers.

I doubt Ray Wilkins will have come cheap either...

I would imagine it comes down to how much we have freed on the wage bill, how much the qucibooks deal is actually worth (I have seen anything from £5m a season to 9m a season reported) and what commercial deals Fox has done to increase the income.

I know City & Chelsea can just buy their way around it but assuming randy is just going to play by the unfair FFP rules and not have one of his shell companies sponsor the mens bathroom for 100 million or something.

So can someone here smarter than me tell me what backed to the FFP maximum actually would mean for us?

How much would we actually have? Roughly?

I have no idea so any guidance would be great.

As we aren't in Europe we only have to play by the PL rules which I think allow for up to £35m of losses per annum (it may only be £15m) I always get confused. You are allowed to do that for a maximum of 3 seasons before then having to balance the books. in addition this investment or debt needs to be converted into equity (shares) in the company.

If we allowed ourselves an extra £35m of turnover to play with that would probably put us ahead of Spurs in terms of turnover/spending power (in effect wages/transfer fees) but still well short of Liverpool.

In many ways I'm glad Lerner is staying as owner.
Better the devil you know in this instance.

Sorry got some of that bit wrong! Have checked FFP rules and

Maximum permitted loss over 3 seasons is £105m (£35m per season) as long as converted to equity shares. However it's only £15m if it isn't converted to equity so only £5m per season.

Also having checked Deloittes Football report they under reported our turnover by about £7m which would put us on a par with Everton/West Ham as about the 20/21st richest club in World Football. The additional £35m would put us past Athletico Madrid but still well behind Spurs and Schalke.

Hope that helps.

If true, we are f*cked....nothing in the last 3 years has showed any signs of wanting to take the club forward, minimal investment to keep us in the league. On top of that the, jury is still out on Sherwood for me.

The last 3 years have been treading water and just about staying afloat as we have waited for the wage bill to reduce to meet FFP rules.  Income is on an upward trend which will allow us to spend more.

Other clubs are in same boat. We need more investment in the team, I hope Randy does it, but it seems he wants to do as little as possible until we are bought, a dangerous game.

I will stick my neck out and predict that new owners are already in place but we will only find out when all transfers have been completed. So many little clues around from a business sense but we will only be told when it suits them. I don't believe a word that is said coming from Villa Park at the moment.

Why not? Whatever else they might have done, when have the people who run the club ever given cause to doubt their word?

I'm hearing that the North Stand jet washing is part of our new £300m sponsorship from Persil. Washes whites whiter don't you know and nothing to do with the FFP rules.

I can think of one instance of them doing that on something big.

When General Krulak used to tell us they were here for the long run, and would be through thick and thin. Only to disappear (overnight in his case) and pretty sharpish, in terms of interest and commitment, at the first sight of rough taking over from smooth.

That was one thing which genuinely disappointed me, the pretty rapid withdrawal. It wasn't just money, either, it was an emotional shutdown.

Randy gets a lot of stick, some of it deserved, some of it not. That deserved stick is usually down to incompetence rather than misleading us, but the whole "in it for the long run" thing sticks in the craw for me a bit.
