:( Stuck with him for a while longer. Let's hope Richards and Gueye aren't the end to this summers business, we need a lot more quality, we've been shit for years.

As long as we keep spending good money and brining in good quality players who can improve the first XI then I am happy. I want us to act like a top flt club aga, even if we cannot compete for the top six at least we can play decent football and give it ago.

Sinclair, Richards, Gueye and now his Amavi kid looking likely, while keeping hold of Delph, puts us in a stronger position with this manager in charge to be nowhere near 12 goals scored and 20 odd points in mid-February.

What makes you say the Amavi deal is looking likely? I've not seen or heard anything for a while so it seemed like we weren't his first choice.

From this article regarding Amavi

Another £9m deal is on the cards to bring Jordan Amavi to the club from the Nice and that one is almost over the line.

A fee has been agreed with the Ligue One outfit for the 21-year-old left-back and personal terms will not pose any problems.

With Micah Richards arriving on big-money this summer, the days of penny-pinching are starting to change.

Hmmmm...I'm not confident about the last bit of the article. What are the Financial Fair Play limitations relating to us anyway? I wonder how much we could actually spend? Bearing in mind the new tv money coming in.

I'm hoping it's just this deal that is dead in the water otherwise it could be another season of treading it? Why on Earth would RL just let Sherwood come out with it like that rather than keeping the supporters informed, seems wholly unprofessional by the chairman and manager.

Don't you find it a bit strange that the manager can just come out and casually say the deal is dead.  Just a bit weird if you ask me.

Randy pulled out originally before eventually buying us so you never know what might happen over the next few weeks.

Very good point! All the spadework has been done. Perhaps the people involved are trying to knock a few mil off the asking price.

I wasn't expecting any news until the end of July when the six week "exclusivity" deal was finished.

Yes I do. Nothing to do with Sherwood at all. If I was Randy Lerner I would be fuming.

So be it. If the financial stress at the club we have experienced over the last few years has eased then we need to start acting like a PL club again. That means acting sensibly in the market and not repeat the mistakes where we spent wrecklessly on contracts. If we continue to sign and be linked with the likes of Amavi and Gueye then we are heading on the right path. We need to be spending £20-30m per summer on the right types of player while bringing through our talented kids. Hopefully Randy with Fox understand that and support the manager appropriately.

There's another article in the Mail that says the stumbling block may be as to whether he wants to come and is taking a few days to think it over. Same article also has quotes from Sherwood saying that he had been impressed by Joe Bennett prior to his calf injury and that he maybe involved in the squad next year.

If I thought a takeover was actually probable, this news may have upset me. But I didn't get excited at the talk of exclusivity because even with non disclosure agreements, I would have expected just a whiff of a hint of who may have been involved.

The outcome I would have wanted at Aston Villa is an owner that's willing to spend, a smart person in charge of the day to day and an effective manager. We may have that right now, if all these rumoured signings happen.

Thats our club though isn't it? Just weird.

I expected it but its not the best of news. Unfortunately it means business as usual at Villa. The customary Lerner new manager kitty (~20M maybe a bit more this time because of increased revenues). Our big excitement will be seeing if we can stay in the league again. Yet another manager talking about needing to sell to buy.

Not very inspiring really.

That's called the withdrawal method isn't it?

It could be done with Randy's blessing to get the club lower their asking price for players and call them bluff.

'Three pages since lunchtime,' I thought when I logged in. 'Either it's something exciting or a punathon'. Turns out it was neither.

Well, if Randy's going to be staying put on that nest egg, at least that means all the uncertainty is ova.
