With the melting icecaps there's going to be significantly too much seawater for everybody.

Christ, the world's a bit depressing.

Alternatives can, and will, be found for fossil fuels but there is one natural resource that can't be replicated and is in increasing demand. Wars used to be fought over land. Now they're fought over oil. Soon they will be fought over water.

There's war going on over here at the moment over water.  They're making us pay for it!

The probability is that it would be cheaper to leave the sea water saline and genetically modify animal life to tolerate higher levels of salt.   Many years ago I attended a conference on the long term prospects of the reversal of north African deserts.   Irrigation is not the problem, there are many forms of plant life which will tolerate high levels of salt (the turf at Wimbledon back in the day way always sea washed Cumberland turf), the problem is the next step of making the vegetable yield from salt water irrigated crops edible to humans.

The big cruise ships have desalination plants on them that can supply the whole ship if needed.

Wouldn't being able to drink/use it go some way to combat rising sea levels? Look on the bright side!

No time to read back. Are we being bought by a desalination billionaire?

No Percy.   It's a bit like the waiting room at a dentist.   Talking about anything except what is really bothering you.

On other words, Percy, we're going to have to wait until the world's oil reserves run out before we see a change in the status quo.

And that, in a roundabout sort of way, encapsulates why Marx was right all along. Here in Northern Europe, at the moment, water is not a scarce resource and so nobody feels the need to hoard more of it than they need. There is nothing in 'human nature', as neoliberals would have us believe, that makes us inherently greedy to the extent that we crave more for ourselves at the expense of others. Inequality creates scarcity, which creates conflict.

Anyway, I just saw Lerner's plane outside Chicken.com in Kings Heath.

Right, so maybe I'm clutching at straws but does anyone else think there may be more in Delph signing than meets the eye? This combined with Lambert saying we are done for this transfer window certainly says there is something bubbling away beneath the surface we are not yet party to

You have to wonder because what other earthly bloody reason would there be for a budding England international to want to stay on with the shambles we have become under the incompetent idiots
