In fact, that is what we had when O'Neill was here. We're all pretty familiar with the pro and anti MON arguments so no need to go over them, but you got the impression he saw it as "his" club and that if anyone was running things, it was him (although he seemed too convinced of this by the end).
That's what done in for FitzGerald (and Cunnah?), wasn't it. Wouldn't surprise me if it was similar for Quinn at Sunderland.

I've never understood all the fuss around whether the owner of the club shows up to games or not. What's more important is who he has in charge of day to day activities. If they are competent then Randy can all watch every game perched on top of the Hubble telescope for all I care.

The flaw in the plan is relying on Randy to make the right appointment, something he's proved himself poor at in the past. Also, on the point about him not attending games - or Villa Park - it doesn't matter when we're doing ok, but when we're doing atrociously the club's leader needs to show some leadership. And that usually involves showing himself (though not in an Ian Botham kind of way), especially in the absence of any other strong personality with genuine authority at the club.

I hate to say anything positive about Spurs but the Joe Lewis > Levy > Football Man* (Arnesen/Comoli/Baldini) is one we could easily replicate.
If anythingRandy is currently more generous than Lewis.

* It's clear that they've never quite got the 'football' appointment right, but the structure itself looks good to me.

You mean the model where they have won next to nothing, spent shed loads of cash and had about 13 managers in ten years or whatever it is? I find Daniel Levy the epitome of smoking mirrors.

We need it all sorted before next summer, which will be massive for the club, we could see Vlaar, Delph, Gabby, Bent, Hutton, N'Zogbia and probably Benteke leave freeing up huge amounts of wages and how we rebuild is vial.
Are you seriously suggesting a new team created in vitro?

As I see it, the one huge difference between how Spurs and us have been run over the last 15 years has been their incredible ability to recoup money on unwanted players, often actually making profits on players. Compare that to the number of written-off contracts, or loss-makers we've had.

So realistically we're no nearer a takeover?

They've also been incredibly good at giving the media the impression that they're on the brink of greatness.

It helps when you've got so many of Fleet Street's finest hanging around the place, and also when you can charge more for car parking than we can for tickets.

We'd need a full side of Southmaptonesque talent (perceived or real) just to recoup the money we have pissed away in the last 6 or 7 years.

Completely unrealistic and also thoroughly downheartening.

So realistically we're no nearer a takeover?

In literal terms we are a day nearer than we were yesterday; in practical terms - who knows?

We could be hours away or years away. Or somewhere in between.

Probably by the Department of Transport to clear the route of the new Spaghetti Junction by-pass.
