Why would you announce you are going to spend more money? Isn't that just going to bump up the price of the players we're after?

In my humble opinion there is not a chance he will have assisted in the build up of hysteria about a statement about more of the same.
I still don't think he realises that literally everything that anybody connected to the club says is dissected to within an inch of it's life.

And this "hysteria" is nothing more than a few hundred people on three or four forums talking about "what it all means". I'm pretty sure he wouldn't really care much whether people are talking about it or not.

Perhaps we're going public.

They may be concerned about season ticket sales.

Like I said a few pages back, I'm more and more convinced that the announcement is going to be an enormous disappointment. The idea that it's going to be some super-billionaire from the United States who, of all the things he could do, has decided to buy a terribly underperforming soccer team in the English West Midlands is phenomenally unlikely, when you think about it. Why on earth would they do it?

Yeah, I mean it's not like there's ever been an American billionaire who's bought a "soccer team in the English West Midlands" before, so how on earth could it ever happen again!

Got some ITK from someone high up at the club that Randy isn't selling up but is in fact about to announce a significant investment aimed at securing long-term success.

He's bought the lucky Michael Jackson statue off Al Fayed.

Maybe, but would anyone buy one purely off the back of the statement? Or would they wait till the signings materialize, in which case the statement is pointless.

I doubt if it's even a few hundred dissecting it. It seems to be a few people saying pretty much the same thing over and over and over and over and...

Not that there won't be a considerable number of people interested in the outcome.

Touche S_H!

Seriously though, we know Lerner is a bit of a special case given his emotional attachment to us from his Cambridge days. We know how great a club is Aston Villa, we can take pride in the area and the tradition, but American billionaires are by and large ignorant of this and are more likely to be attracted to London as it's a city they know, an 'Alpha +++ Global City' as their wanker advisors would say. It's not impossible, it's just really quite unlikely.

I'm by no means convinced of the authenticity of it, but surely a billionaire who's already involved in football is much more likely to appreciate the history / tradition of villa than someone who's only just getting into it as an investment? Particularly one whose been involved in the US national team, with the obvious link with Guzan?

True, and hey, maybe Randy's been selling the romance of the thing and been persuasive. It's just that as the days go by more cold water gets poured on the whole thing, for me. Maybe it's a Villa-related coping mechanism.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be very surprised if it happens, but I just don't think it's as unlikely as you say.

My guess is that it will go something like :

"Fuck me, is that the time? I have to run - can we do this later?"

It's how I would handle it.

Do we have an exact date on this announcement or is it any time next week?
