If you were Lambert and had spotted the next Benteke esque bargain transfer - and then Randy hands you 10m for the transisitional period to protect the (dimminshing) value of his asset, would you:

a) buy this star player without a moment's hesistation
b) sit on your knowledge of this player and ponder whether he'd do a good job for celtic when given your P45 by the new owner and take the hotseat at Parkhead. Spend the 10m on another bunch of Tonevs, Lunas and Bacunas

With the chance it could drag into next season you get the player. The better he does will only help his chances in the future. If he stays on at the moment the only option is to his level best to improve the squad.

I'd love to be in the restaurant on Friday night.
Randy: Order anything you want gentlemen.
Lambo: Haggis and chips, Deep Fried Mars Bar and a bottle of Irn Bru.

Lambert needs to boost his profile as much as anyone so I think he'd try and sign the best players he can regardless.  I'd guess he'd be less inclined to sign youngsters however as his planning will be for the next 6-months/season rather than further into the future.  This might mean more aging loan signings which will make an instant impact - arguably what we've wanted anyway.

The bigger worry for me, is whether the next Benteke would join us because there is clearly going to be some change one way or another in the coming years.

We all know that Lambert and Faulkner are off to New York this week to see Randy. Randy owns a restaurant there and it's closed on Friday for a 'private dinner reception'.
Now you don't close a whole restaurant just to treat a couple of employees to a meal. Or do you?

Blimey, that place is way out on Long Island.

There is a fault with his website for his restaurant.
When you click 'map' it opens up an email...

If I were the next Benteke I would happily sign for the Villa. It puts me in the display window of the 'best league in the world'. The message would be, "Look at me, come and buy me."

"Well, Pauls, it looks like your days are numbered, so please make it look as though you're interested in the coming weeks or months while I try to find a buyer who'll pay you off."
There was  a load of crap on the 'ITK' forum about Lambo having already handed in a resignation which was declined because it would send the wrong impression of the club out.

Interesting comparison between the situations of Newcastle United and Aston Villa with a depressing sentence at the end:

Agreed, but the likelihood is that any player - if considered good enough - could choose from 10-15 Premiership clubs.  The uncertainty would put Villa well down that list even below traditionally smaller, less appealing clubs.

Unfortunately it rings true. We're still an attractive proposition. No doubt. We average gates of 35k, and with more on field success that number would increase slightly I'd imagine.
If someone comes in with a genuine plan to increase our off field revenues, particularly in international markets, then there's money to be made. At the same time, us spending 30 million in a summer and keeping in line with FFP shouldn't be beyond a club like ourselves.

In terms of FFP, I can't see Man City being too badly effected. Money talks in the end. It gives them power and even though they're pretty much flipping the bird at those rules, they'll find a way to get away with it. Unfortunately we wouldn't be able to do that, because starting a project like that at this time is difficult.

It's saying what we already knew though - FFP protects the positions of clubs who have been able to build a revenue stream through spending huge amounts of money without having to worry about the losses they've incurred. The rest can't do that now; the ladder has been pulled up.

It's saying what we know, but it's something that a lot of people probably don't actually realise.
