Paulie, I think if Option 4 does materialize it will be because Randy Lerner accepts that his penny pinching strategy was ill thought out, has failed and seriously damaged his investment.   He could quite possibly stump up the extra funds himself.

Da Wiki!

I like his style.
The charity donations as well as suing the airport!

I hope it's him as he would be good for Villa.

He owns two military jets and his own island. Will a Bond villain pass the Premier League's "fit and proper" test?

Villa Park to be surrounded by a moat patrolled by sharks with frickin lazers

How do people think extra investment will happen?
In my simple mind I am thinking a man will turn up at Villa Park with two lorries full of cash, hand a list of all the players in the CL semi-final teams to Lambert and Faulkner and tell them to go and buy them. I don't know why anybody would think differently 8)

I've no idea who the potential new owner is, but this whole process is having an interesting effect on us Villa fans. Our default setting appears to be 'good things don't happen to us, so it can't be Ellison or anyone super-rich.' I wonder how citeh fans felt in the days leading up to their takeover? Did they have an inkling what was about to happen? Could they believe it?

No, they were shitting it because their current chairman was coming on like a prototype Carson Yeung and looking at a spell in chokey.

I, like  probably quite a few here, have always thought about buying a club if you come into some huge lump sum. I'm talking millions. I'd like to take over someone like a Shrewsbury, or a lower midlands league team. Maybe pump money into Moor Green and get them back. Completely change the club from top to bottom to make the 3rd biggest club in Birmingham acceptable to Villa supporters everywhere.

It's mind boggling to think that even if I had a billion it would still not be enough for Villa in the Premier League.

Larry Ellison isn't going to happen. I think we should manage expectations here and just say that is pie In the sky.

I don't know if you are just tempering your own expectations yourself or just likes to predict gloom, but on your last couple of predictions about our doom, I'm putting money on Ellison being our new owner once I can find the odds.

I agree.

I feel far more excited about the football than I did during the actual season.

It's got to the point that whenever I read the title of this I immediately sing the title to this in my head:

I wouldn't be surprised to hear Lerner say that Lambert has done what has asked of him, now that the club are financially better of either he will release more funds, or he has found extra investment.

This is my guess too. An option 4 if you like.

An interesting option. Put a hold on the new contract talks, give him proper money, raise the expectations and see if Lambert can cut it. Set a top 8 finishing target or no new deal. Does Randy trust him enough with the money? Do we?

If it's option 4 it will be with a new contract. I'm afraid I'm going for option 5. New contract for Lambert, a little more money, a thread started next year about Feb called 'Relegation'.

Doubt that, Lerner wouldn't have made a statement unless something reasonably significant was going to happen.

You might be right, I might just have had my expectations lowered by the lat four years.

There's a poster on TBAR who seems utterly convinced Philip Anschutz is the buyer.

Can't see this Ellison thing happening in all honesty, that sort of thing won't happen to us & it's only likely to bring disappointment when any new owner is 'only' a billionaire. But I think Lerner will do the right thing for the club, we need investment & people who know what they are doing. Sadly the current setup is lacking the skills to do the job or in Lerner's case the interest.

Lerner's not going to say we're up for sale, as that only creates uncertainty.

Hopefully any sale was dependant on staying up & we'll hear for certain over the next few days.

He's supporting Lambert either for him to carry on under new owners or so as not to ruin his future employment elsewhere.

One thing is certain, investment in the team has to change significantly. Anything else is suicide.
