Benteke brilliance

First Villa player to score an overhead kick since Dion Dublin vs Southampton about 10 years ago?

I'm surprised that anyone can forget Cahill's.

I thought for 20 mins we were abysmal. For 25 we were very good, and then for 45 we just killed the game off.

I am actually as pleased with the final 45 as I am the middle 25.

I know it is easier to do when you are winning 4-1, but even so, it was nice to see.

I thought the second half was just 'meh'. We allowed Norwich to dictate the game and just snuffed them out by closing them down well. We didn't actually bother doing anything ourselves, save the Gabby header where he really should have scored. After a great 20 minute spell in the first half it would have been great to build on it. It's not as though we don't need the practice.

Still, we got the three points and right now that's all that matters.

Probably the first comfortable victory I can remember this season, albeit after a shaky start. I really did fear the worst after their goal, but we are a confidence team. As soon as we clicked they just couldn't deal with it.

Just back home after a few post match beers and would agree with that assessment.  I thought Norwich were as defensively bad as any top flight team I've seen at Villa Park, but we were clinical enough to take advantage of that.  It is frustrating that we can only seem to produce performances like that in patches.

Before the game we were bemoaning the selection of Ahmadi for a home game quoting his effectiveness away from home but not at home.10 mins in I was on my feet slating him for losing out on a 50/50 challenge. At the announcement of Benteke as MOM near the end I turned to my son and we both agreed that Ahmadi was unlucky not to get it. I thought he had a great game.Credit where credit is due !

Just back from a very wet villa park, got soaked on way back to car but hey who cares after a home win ! And 4-1 ! And a couple if really superb goals. We even danced in a few puddles on the way back  ;D

Cahill v SHA?

More side on than overhead. And a fucking great that was too.

I thought it was quite strange Norwich seemed to actually shut up shop in the second half. Even weirder that Hoots just confirmed it in his post match interview.

I guess he was afraid of a cricket score but still if a Villa manager had done that I would be fuming.

Luckily not a factor in the game but how on earth did Tettey not get a straight red in the first half?

Opposition players hardly ever get sent off at Villa Park anymore and if they do it's usually in injury time for some reason.

Would have to see it again, but it looked a bad one watching live.  Again not a factor in the game, but I thought there was a pretty clear handball in the box towards the end of the game (think it was their RB) from a shot by Gabby.

Thought Baker had another good game today. Looks far better with Vlaar alongside him.
