Trott commits to the Bears with three-year contract extension

Warwickshire batsman Jonathan Trott has committed himself to the Bears until at least the end of the 2017 season after signing a new three-year contract extension at Edgbaston.

Jonathan (33) is currently the Club’s Beneficiary and scored 1,156 runs across all three formats in 2014, which helped the Bears to runner-up finishes in the LV= County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup. He also scored five centuries between July and September.

Dougie Brown, Director of Cricket at Warwickshire CCC, said: “Jonathan played some of the best cricket of his career in the second half of last season and he showed that he remains one of the leading batsmen in the English game.

“It’s been great to see him enjoying his cricket and make such a big contribution to the team’s strong finish to the season. He loves Warwickshire and playing cricket at Edgbaston, and everyone connected with the Club is thrilled to see him commit long-term.”

Jonathan has scored 14,681 First Class, 8,830 List A and 2,122 T20 runs in his career to date and has won 49 Test, 68 ODI and seven IT20 caps for England since making his international debut in the deciding Ashes Test at The Oval in 2009, where his 119 in the second innings helped England to a historic 2-1 series win.

He signed his first professional contract with the Bears ahead of the 2003 season and has gone on to win two County Championships and one CB40 title.

Jonathan said: “Warwickshire CCC is a very special club for me and my family and I would like to thank everyone associated with the club for their support. It has always been a great honour to represent the Bears and I am delighted to commit to the club once again for a further three years.

“Hopefully we can build on the success of this year by achieving greater success in the years to come.”

Anyone remember Wasim Khan:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/29778905

I remember him. When he made his debut for the Bears he was the first British-born Muslim to play county cricket . He came through the ranks around the time of Woolmer and Reeve. I think he retired early to work on the Chance to Shine project and that has been massively successful.

He's well respected and has been tipped for a big job within the ECB. Good luck to him at Leicestershire, he'll need it!

It is. Good to see big Boyd in the squad too, another player who suffered post-Ashes.

Fair play to Trott for fighting his way back.

Although.........I'm not  sure it is such a good thing, he's never a Lion, he's far, far too good for that. Trescothick and that other guy (whose name escapes me) are proof that it is an extremely difficult illness to overcome and i fear the pressure and exposure of playing for England may be too much for him.

I hope I'm wrong but I reckon he will never play for England again.

Now go out and prove me wrong Trotty. Good luck to you.

A good idea to send Trott on a Lions tour - a chance for him & them to see how it goes on tour without the glare that he would be under on a full tour....

There are still places to be played for in the batting order with Robson having largely struggled and Mo. 1 innings apart still having to convince with his batting in the way his bowling has.  Trott has proven quality and seems the type of level headed character that you want the likes of Ballance to learn from
