Do we actually think Lambert could go if we lose tonight? I'm still not sure that Lerner would see sacking him as a possibility, given his new contract. Also there's no way in hell Lambert's walking.

Convince me!

Until Lambert is finally sacked I will continue to believe that he's the safest manager in the entire football league.

A double-figures kicking from the next two games is about the only thing that might mean we see the back of him, one way or the other. Other than that, I too reckon he's going nowhere any time soon.

Thing is, and this is credit to Villa fans, but I don't think there is that much pressure from supporters for the club to sack the manager.  Unless we get late in the season and we are in the thick of it I don't see Learner making a change.  He should do it over Christmas if we don't get a win or two over the coming fixtures, but for reasons mentioned before I just don't see it happening.

Clarke coming in might bail Lambert out because I think they'd give Lambert a stay of execution with Clarke there to see if they could turn it around together. Ultimately though, if Lambert refuses to change how he sends the team out tactically you could Guardiola and Ancelotti as his assistants and we'd still only have 30% of the ball.

You also realize that Clarke coming in would really fuck up our long standing efforts to get people to spell Clark (Ciaran) correctly.

Bailing Lambert out is exactly why I thought Keane came to us...big name, big distraction. Worked for...4/5/6 games?

In keeping with recent Villa practice, something soggy in the background hit the fan and Keane's pissed off.

I thought that he was a goner in the summer, but the man has more lives than the proverbial cat. If Clarke was to come as an assistant, I'd rather it be with Lambert well and truly out of the door

i've seen a few tenuous online links to Steve Clarke coming in as Keane's replacement this morning. I really hope it's true. Not just because of his track-record as an assistant, but because i thought he actually did a decent job as WBA's "Head Coach" which is a position I think we're more in need of.

Clarke would be a good move as an assistant, he did that really well at Chelsea. I've never liked the idea of an 'head coach' though.

I love the idea if it's implemented properly.  Done well you take a scouting element out of the remit of the head coach and have that as something that just happens alongside, then when you're looking for players instead of going to the scout and saying I need you to find X or specifically go and watch Y you say 'I want an attacking midfielder with pace and flair who can get into the box and we can afford this fee and wages'.  All being well you get back a list of 2-3 players who we have game footage and detailed analysis for.  For this to work you need a bit of an army of 15-20 scouts based all across europe watching games at all age groups.  That clearly wouldn't come cheap though.

If 10 games without a win after tonight isn't enough , regardless of the score, then nothing is going to shift him, regardless of how many we get tanked by in the next 2.

That said, I hope we win tonight, because we desperately need some points on the board that don't come in singles.

He's a bit of a twat, but Chelsea looked very good when Ray Wilkins was assistant manager there. And when he left, they suddenly went shite for a spell.

Just saying, is all.
