He actually spoke some truths in the end and certainly had the look of a man who will not be in charge of Aston Villa in 7 days time.

This. And also Randy will either pump some money in or more likely sell:

When a Manager of Aston Villa starts bigging up avoiding relegation as a major achievement the time has come for him to go.

It's pretty desperate that the manager is having to beg in the press for more money to spend.

The biggest club in the second biggest city in the UK and this is where we are. Its shit really.

Despite feeling sorry for him, I think his leadership qualities are really weak.

Having a nervous wreck of a manager on the touchline will inevitably rub off onto the younger players and probably lose respect of the experienced ones

This is how I feel about Ed Milliband.

In my opinion with the ability of the current squad avoiding relegation is an achievement. I expect to see a lot of the Fulham,Norwich and Cardiff players in the Premiership next season. Had we gone down how many would you expect to see sold to Premiership clubs? Our stadium, our history and our tradition means bugger all if the team lacks quality.

On another note, I personally think it's unfair of Lerner to leave Lambert to answer these questions when he clearly knows the answers but isn't allowed to say. He should have let Lambert go the very second we had beaten Hull - keeping him in place is just subjecting the bloke to the press and he clearly isn't comfortable with it. He knows, we know...just f*cking stop this pantomime, Lerner

I think it's more about bigging himself up actually for his next employer.

There may be some truth in this, although I don't see that teams like Palace, Swansea and Sunderland who are above us have got better players than us, but it does not mean that an Aston Villa Manager should be coming out and saying it.

I agree with this. It's also an acheivement considering we picked up so many long term injuries to key players Benteke, Kozak, Nzog and Okore. As well as Gabby being in and out with various injuries all season.

Well he won't have to wait long for a Blackburn, Bolton, Coventry type role.

The crumb of comfort this time is it will probably cost about £1m to get rid of the management team this time.

This represents a significant reduction in unecesary costs compared to O'Neill's reported pay off the susbequent recruitment and sacking of Houllier & Crew, the recruitment and sacking of TSM and recruitment of Lambert & crew.

The flipside being that Lambert has signed a lot of these players so he has to culpable to an extent. I don't know what his brief was but I don't think any manager would choose to sign players from lower leagues if he had the choice of being able to sign established Premiership players instead. I'd agree regarding the Palace players but to be honest I reckon Sunderland and Swansea both have more quality in their squads. I'm not defending Paul Lambert here, some of the results he has overseen in his two years have been truly atrocious but I do think that in the thirty years i've been following the Villa he has had the toughest jobs of all the managers in that period. As fans we always go back to the fact that we're Aston Villa and we should be challenging for a top six spot. I, like the vast majority am not happy watching a Villa side scraping to safety in May but I can't hand on heart say that any manager could have done much better with the tools at his disposal.

I think Lerner has been disrespectful towards Lambert.

Either Lambert knows what is happening and has been told to keep schtum and get on with the job, how unmotivating would that have been. I wouldn't stick around myself.

Or Lerner really hasn't told him anything and he's been in the dark, dealing with constant speculation the vague announcement caused, which is even more disrespectful.

Either way the announcement that there will be an announcement I found unnecessary.
