Poster above makes some good points re Mclaren. If derby don't come up he is a very good shout IMHO. He's getting better with age like a fine wine.

Six months ago, McClaren wasnt getting a sniff of a job after his horrible spell at Forest. Wolfsburg and his second spell at Twente were also disappointments.

He has history at Derby and its a good fit for him. Even taking the coaching role at QPR shows his ego isnt what it once was. Would only be an option with a very strong director of football so he could concentrate solely on the coaching. Would leave him be at Derby to be honest.

Really hope this summer we avoid like the plague the Malky Mackays, Neil Lennons, Eddie Howe's and other flavours of the month. We really need a top coach comfortable with a yet to be appointed DOF type figure who would control player recruitment. The jump from managing in the lower tiers of English football to a club of Villa's stature has proven too much for Paul Lambert and I dont think there is someone out there worth pursuing domestically. No also to the typical megalomaniac British manager - Allardyce, Redknapp, Bruce, Pulis. No way to one of those. David Moyes might be an interesting one to consider but dont think the fit would be right for us either.

I guess the likes of Klopp, Benitez, Mancini, De Boer, Spalletti and Van Gaal are out of our league financially

You missed out Thomas Tuechel, I think. But yes, essentially, nice looking list - I'd just worry about proficiency in English for some. Just with the players and so forth, mind - Pochettino doesn't do many interviews in English but only for fear of the press twisting his words, and he does conduct his training in English.
