Do we actually think Lambert could go if we lose tonight?

Yes if the fans there and us lot make our voice heard.

If we lose and he isn't sacked, then don't go on Sunday. Go to the pub and watch it. Let the empty seats have their say. The message will get through eventually

I've already got plans for an almighty blow out when he finally gets the bullet

Although there's no more evidence of it than there was on Saturday night, I'm more convinced that should we lose tonight, Lambert will be gone. There's no logical reason for him to keep surviving the inevitable and I think it's tonight that'll be the deciding factor.

Of course, if we keep drawing, it's hard to know what conclusion to come to. It doesn't help us but is not really enough to tip Lerner over the edge into a sacking.

I also get the feeling tonight is pivotal.

I don't think he will get sacked - even if we drop firmly into the bottom 3. Lerner hasn't got it in him by the looks of it.

I just can't see it.

I agree, under normal circumstances,  the pressure should be on.

But if they didn't bow to fan pressure in the summer, they have no real reason to now.

Lerner is operating at a safe distance, and probably backs Lambert to keep us up once more.  Even if we look far from convincing in the process.   If we go through our so-called winnable sequence of games with minimal points accrued, that might force a rethink.  But losing to Palace won't do it.

It's a shame, because Lambert looked to have so much promise based on his success at Wycombe and Norwich. A young, astute, tactically flexible manager.  He was a popular appointment, and the opening day away to West Ham (we're Aston Villa, we're passing the ball) indicated that he had the right philosophy.  Though he did play with two 6ft + merchants up top at Norwich, so perhaps that should have been a warning. As an earlier poster mentioned, I think our weakness at the back and vulnerability from set pieces in his opening season scarred him. He went from being a manager well known for giving it a go and taking the fight to the opposition to one happy to sit back and nick something on the counter.   Towards the end of that first season, the attack looked fluid, with Gabby, Bill Wiemann and Benteke all able to interchange.  We might concede, but we were more than capable of getting a few goals ourselves.  We have never really had that attacking threat since then, owing to a variety of factors.

We have looked dismal for the bulk of his tenure, there is no getting away from that.  And the possession stats and overall style of play seem to be getting worse, if anything.

Staying up should never be the sole aspiration for a club such as ours.

He is well intentioned, I think. And respectful of  the club's history.  But as manager of Aston Villa, he is out of his depth.

He's a bit of a twat, but Chelsea looked very good when Ray Wilkins was assistant manager there. And when he left, they suddenly went shite for a spell.

Just saying, is all.
Are you suggesting what I think you're suggesting

We're out of sight and out of mind. I think as long as the books look alright Randy will just keep turning a blind eye to the dross on the pitch.
He'll get a bloody shock when he tries to balance those books in the championship though.

I'm sure you're just emphasising the point, but as much as I want a change I won't celebrate it happening.

Removing him is only half the problem. Appointing a proper replacement is the other part which I have zero confidence Lerner will achieve.

The only plus side there is that the CEO usually helps recruiting new managers , so you would expect Fox might have different contacts rather than Paul Faulkners for the recruitment pool?

He might have better contacts, but he also has no experience of appointing managers, as he's come from Arsene Wenger's fiefdom.

True, but in my opinion , no experience and having to rely on his Arsenal contacts is a step up from Lerner/Faulkners pool.

Mainly because I can't see if being any worse :)

Nor me. I think I'll be like when a player scores against his old team.

I will stifle a smile and if any of your run towards me to celebrate with me, I'll firmly but gently push you away.

Well he gets a win, but mainly because Benteke is class. Unfortunately he still makes the same mistakes he always does and we could easily have lost that game.
