Your argument in the first paragraph is undermined by Lambert's Norwich coming up and finishing 12th. They proved they were more than capable. The categorisation of him with Geroge Burley is therefore a false one.

Yes , George burley took Ipswich to 5th place and Europe in their 1st season after promotion.

And then back down again.

Your point being that lambert and Norwich had proved hey were more than capable by finishing 12 th in their 1st season up - burley and Ipswich finished 5th and yet still went down the next season .
THere is no guarantee lambert would have kept Norwich up last season had he stayed there - many teams have gone down in their 2nd season in the premiership .

Maybe, maybe not. The point being that the original poster was attempting to paint Lambert into a group of managers who were successful in the Championship based on hard work, physicality etc and were subsequently found out in the Premier League. I don't think that's fair, given that Norwich came up and have since stayed up.

For me the jury is still out on lambert - in the summer I felt we had turned a corner after a strong finish to last season but this season several players have failed to reproduce that form and the football particularly at home has been very poor .
Talk of a new contract is premature in my opinion and should be put to bed until at least the summer - we are 4 points off the bottom 3 with a tough run of games ahead - he has not done enough to merit a new deal at this point.

He left after they stayed up in their first season. He can take no credit for them staying up since.
Comparisons with Burley etc are quite fair.

I disagree. I think Norwich are in danger of being relegated largely because Hughton has undone Lmabert's good work over the past 18 months.

Why do you think comparisons with Coyle et al are fair?

Why do you think comparisons with Coyle et al are fair?

Because the several things he gets justified criticism for aren't enough for some people, they have to find other routes of attack.

I'm pretty sure at some point he'll emerge as a key participant in the Watergate scandal, the architect of the Vietnam War and leader of a German spy ring in WW2.

I'm as critical of Lambert as the next man, I'd rather have teeth pulled than watch the crap long ball nonsense he's served up this season, but fuck me, there isn't half a load of nonsense being talked about him of late.

I honestly have no idea why anyone thinks Lambert should get an extra season managing this club. I really wanted it to work with him but he's a terrible manager and should be sacked IMO.

He's been responsible for so many humiliating games since he's been here. Bradford, Millwall, Sheffield United, most home games, the 8-0 defeat etc. Why does anyone want more of that?

I agree. It's like some of the the posts about Nathan Baker last week. Not rating him and suggesting he shouldn't be in the team is fine but this in turn led to suggestions that his tackling could lead to breaking an opponents leg. It was just another unjustified comment to prove a point when 'I don't think he's good enough' was suffice.

Unless we go down, I'd let him take us into next season. If next season we're still losing home games and  struggling to beat lower league sides in the cup, then he can't have too many complaints if he's replaced.

Dunno if anyones mentioened this yet, but an article here about the new Fulham mans notorious methods. Maybe something in a few of these...
particularly the £1000 fines for unnecessary backward passes! ;)

Once he takes Fulham down, maybe we can hire him as a coach here.

I can understand that view even if I think it's bordering on the very generous.

Would you offer him now a new extended contract, Clampy?

He's been responsible for some pretty good games, too.

I'm not sure i'd call it very generous. For me, he'd be out on his ear if we went down but there's also a possibility we could have a good run and finish a comfortable 10th. So to answer your question, no I wouldn't.

Too few, sadly. That's why we've been relegation strugglers in his two seasons here.
