On Swansea, it seems to me that they've done a Stefan Kovacs. After Michels the slavedriver had left Ajax, laying the groundwork of total football, this Romanian Kovacs came in and allowed them to relax a bit, and they reached their highest peaks under him, but eventually that laxness led to the whole thing falling apart. Rodgers really worked them hard, but it was under Laudrup where Swansea won the trophy and everything, but eventually his more relaxed approach has led to aimlessness. It's much more complicated that saying 'passing football is rubbish because it's defenders passing to each other' - an utterly risible thing to argue.

That sounds like something a lot closer to home - Messrs Saunders and Barton.

True, but the mad commitment to this brand of football made me think more of Ajax.

I have not said passing football is rubbish at all.

Somebody amusingly said that I must have hated the first half against Liverpool, suggesting erroneously that Swansea must play football that way, when they plainly do not.

My point was, that the infatuation with Real Swansea since they achieved the magical statistic of 73% of the ball at Villa Park, was that they are equally as tedious as any long ball team, because they pass to absolutely no affect. Can you remember anything that happened in that second half? No? Neither can I. They are a butter knife trying to cut cheap minute steak. The point was proven against West Ham where they found themselves slinging in the percentage ball because ultimately, that had more chance, albeit a small one, of fashioning a goal.

I am all for patient possession when it used to probe sides, like Dortmund, who will ping it around at pace back and forth, before delivering an end product. They will also murder you on the break too.

There is a brand of football to aspire to.

Ads, you're basing your opinion on two games; the game at home last season and the terrible performance last week when they reverted to hoofing it. The point many are making is based on their football philosophy introduced by Martinez, carried on by Sousa, developed by Rogers and brought success under Laudrup.

As Monty pointed out, they haven't been great this season, extra games in Europe and missing their top scorer are partly to blame but to pretend they just piss about with the ball at the back is just plain wrong.

Not like the Liverpool game? Fast, precise, pressing, great movement..

Just for you:

If we win today and on Tuesday he's worth every penny.

It's funny how pecieved wisdom changes. Europa League/UEFA Cup football used to allow sides to have a storming start to the campaign; Fulham and ourselves being examples, before smaller squads saw burnout kick in come the spring. Now it's apparently the other way round.

Swansea and their attitude towards how they would like to play the game is commendable, at least compared to West Ham et al, but their execution this season of it is poor and the significance of the West Ham defeat and it's manner cannot be ignored. Not when they sacked their first manager in 10 years a few days later.

I can understand people pointing to Arsenal and nodding, but not a side who are not as good as us, inspite of how poor our home form is.

2 on the trot?  That was highly unlikely before the second half started today.

Safest job in football this blokes landed himself, unbelievable.

The thought of Lerner and Faulkner having to appoint another manager fills me with absolute dread..

I think that's the only thing that has kept me in the Lambert camp. We have been a shambles since August 2010 and if the people who run the club had anything about them they would have had us back on an even keel by now. MON fucked us over, we all know that but the problems we have endured since then are more fundamental and ultimately rests on complete incompetence at the top.

New contract? He's lucky this one isn't being terminated.

The wording of the Faulkner quote is interesting, if it's accurate: "...not actively looking to sell the club."

Get BFR back out of retirement. Whats Brian Little doing these days? Even Gregory. Anyone of them all these years later couldn't do any worse.

Why get rid of a load of duffers on long contracts only to sign the duffer manager up to a new one?
