He isn't going anywhere it seems.....

Oh dear. So they want a new director of football? The DoF is in charge of signings, the one thing that's going well. It's like Lerner has never heard of 'coaching'.
IF there is ANY truth in that article, and it's a big if, then it confirms that Lerner  has totally and utterly finished with the club because the football and results part of the club holds no interest for him.

He couldn't make his lack of interest any clearer if he tried.

That whole statement in the summer just looks like a "don't complain to me, i don't care anymore" thing.

Not according to the original Birmingham Mail article:

"Unlike at other clubs the director of football role will not be heavily centred around identifying and purchasing players.

Villa feel that with new director of recruitment Paddy Reilly already doing a decent job at Bodymoor Heath there is little need to add another commanding head to that section.

Instead, Fox is thought to want someone who can look critically at areas such as sports medicine, data analysis and athletic performance to ensure the claret and blues are reaching their maximum potential.

While the exact duties are not yet clear, it’s thought that a new arrival would not come in and under-cut any football responsibilities that the manager is in charge of.

That would mean no interfering with the squad, team selection and game-based issues."

Being as Zlerner and co are useless at selecting football managers  hope is that they pick an excellent coach as DOF and a few weeks down the road after several disagreements with Lambert he will be in charge of tactics.

Agreed.  The signings are generally pretty good although there aren't enough of them.  Gil looks promising but a 21 year old Spaniard with no English experience isn't enough.  If Lerner wants to help and support Lambert then forget about a DoF and give him some more funds.

Yeah, a waste of money in fact. I always thought the title 'director of football' was funny, too, because if a manager's not 'directing' the football then what the hell is he doing?

In other words doing what other clubs have been doing for years and acting professionally.

If that has indeed come from a club employee, it sounds like they believe defeat is actually likely.

As for recruiting somebody to deal with the science side of things, great go ahead.
Unfortunately it will not deal with the lack of talent or tactical ineptitude of the manager.

It's incredible the club does not have staff managing those areas. Also, clearly not responsibilities of a staff member senior to, or even equal to, the manager.

I'll do the data analysis for them.

Shouldn't take long on the attacking stats front.

The Def Leppard drummer is ideally suited to this role.

That is a very narrow role indeed, though probably much-needed. Again, however, would it improve Lambert's apparently-woeful training? Time will tell.

I'm actually a data analyst/statistician, albeit one who's awful at maths. I'm also currently nursing a broken wrist. I'm ideally qualified.

Fair do's to Lambert or someone at the club for persuading Delph to sign with 6 months left and get Benteke to come off the transfer list and sign up. There must be something he's doing right because they could of both earned more and played for competitive clubs instead of staying.

I can handle that.
