I was under the impression Bentitez was interviewed after Houiller left.

Yeah I remember reading somewhere Bentiez was in contention but pulled out as soon as he learnt of our transfer budget so fits in.

Brian Reade is a Liverpool fan so could well have a hotline to Rafa from his years managing up there.

Wasn't there also some bizarre link to Ancelotti floating around the time we sack Houllier and he left Chelsea. That was a weird one.

I reckon it's Rafa, but to be fair I think he'd have been a square peg in a round hole. Not that Lambert is exactly doing well but still.

Paul's X Factor tearjerker moment.

Good to hear him talking about bringing one or two more in. I like him but he is just not very good unfortunately.

Well I hope he realises it's not just a case of getting new players. It's actually getting them to play in an appropriate system.

If he's happy with the midfield it shows why we have major problems going forward.

The protest. Against Lerner? Strikes me as weird. He has plunged several millions in and around the club. Yes, made a huge mistake by letting MON loose with the cheque book and we have been paying for it since. But. He has given Lambert money. Cut the wage bill, fair enough. But has given Lambert the chance to buy a load of shit and have to get rid of most of them again. For me, Lambert first, then Lerner. Lambert is a shockingly bad Manager. He needs to go. Lerner also needs to go, but I don't think he is damaging the club half as much as Lambert.

I'm not sure I'd give Lerner such an easy ride, but I do find it odd how many people think so highly of his transfer dealings. I agree most of the players he's bought have been utter rubbish.

There is the problem.

Football is a simple game. Complicated by deluded beliefs.

If you had to pick a football team, you would start with your keeper, two strikers, one a target man, one a finisher. A hard working midfield comprising flair, width, & graft. Two solid centre backs.

So what are we left with? Full backs - the position even in pub sides you hide your weakest players. Yet Lambert want's them to do two jobs, defend and supply crosses, when they are barely fit to defend.

Deluded beliefs.

Anyone catch 5 live tonight, they talked about us for 10 minutes and Keown, Jenas and Danny Mills were spot on about us.

Basically said the middle trio were all similar, did the basic things well in midfield but were very replaceable and offer nothing creative.

Also said the new style didn't suit us and we needed to get the ball quicker up to the front two.

Jenas like many players also said he didn't realise how big a club it was until he joined for his pension fund.

Anyway a lot more of the pundits/press are getting wise to how poor we actually are and are echoing the comments on here and elsewhere so hopefully Lambert will get really difficult post match interviews from now on as is starting to occur.

I actually think Jenas makes a very good pundit.

Lerner is damaging the club through his financial shackles limiting how well we're ever going to do.

He has effectively set the bar very low and expectations are rock bottom.

Lambert has not even managed to get anywhere near fulfilling those low expectations.

It is true, he has had a limited budget, but at no point has he consistently got anything like the best out of the squad he has. That's the problem. He'll give us a shock, eyebrow-raising win every now and then and that'll see him good for another 10 match run of, at best, utter mediocrity, and at worst, shocking guff.

Between them, they've managed to make the club into a very, very miserable place. No goals, not many shots, very few wins.

People have enough austerity to deal with in their normal lives without paying to watch something even more starkly austere on a Saturday afternoon.

I'd also add that, if i were a fan of any other top flight club, I would absolutely want us to go down.

Who wants a clueless, goal-shy, depressing ramshackle like us stinking out the league?

If I were a fan of Man Utd i'd be gutted to see Villa relegated!
