Credit to Lambert for excellent subs in the end. It might have killed off our attacking intent but it definitely killed of West Brom's, they didn't have a sniff in the last 20 minutes. We're now 5 points off Southampton in 9th and a good 3 point gap from the bottom half. Fantastic.

I don't know what match you were watching but Baggies' goal threat was not destroyed in the last twenty minutes - it's twenty of the pantshittiest minutes I've spent in my life!

I can understand Weimann being subbed as he ran himself into the ground. Albrighton replacing him I would have preferred to see as they were going to commit more to attack.  Going defensive as we did invited them on to us and a better team than Albion I think would have taken advantage. The result suggests that Lambert got it right to go the route he did but as you say it was squeaky bum time.

Bacuna did well in the number 10 role. But I really do think we need established defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder and a centre half along side Vlaar.

Lowton doesn't look very interested at the moment.

Was impressed with Bertrand, he's almost slotted in unnoticed.

Most of the Boggies on WM last night seemed convinced they were heading for the drop. I don't think that'll happen but only because there are at least three sides with poorer players in their squads.

The 2-2 at their place really knocked them though, what's this going to do to them? Could be a Wolves type scenario, long losing run to relegation.

Please McGrath, make it so.

How nice to see an entertaining game of football at Villa Park again.

For all our inadequacies, one thing Villa can't be criticised for is a lack of spirit. That's a big effort to fight back from being 2-0 down after only eight minutes, and it's not the first time we've had to come from behind. I thought Vlaar was outstanding, Weimann was always a threat and Benteke is getting back to what we know he's capable of. It's amazing the difference a couple of goals has made to him.
On the negative side our ball retention was poor again, especially towards the end of the match.

I think the foul on Benteke was a penalty but I don't think it did us any harm being in the Holte End penalty box!

Bacuna's finish has to be one of the worst ever to result in a goal!

When I woke up this morning the first thing I thought about was the crossbar twanging like a guitar string and the ball in the back of the net

Everything about that goal was utterly sexual.

Woke up at 5.40am and checked my phone expecting to see the half-time score.  A bit muddled when I saw 4-3 and FT - 8 hours time difference and mathematics is clearly not my strong point.  I can only assume that the sound of the FT whistle and resulting roar made it all the way to Singapore.

Breakfast has rarely tasted so good.
Have a few Slings today to celebrate!

The weather had a big effect on both defences I thought.

Great win ! Some of the attacking football last night was what I thought we would get regularly under Lambert. Great to see Benteke back to his aggresive best. Not sure about all the stick Westwood gets, he keeps the ball moving and was excellent last week up at Anfield against our current England captain.
One thing is for sure we definately need to sign a right back as not sure about Lowton and Bacuna is completely lost at full back. Worst case scenario we are paying Hutton's wages at least have him on the bench as Bacuna is woeful in defence (not his fault) but needs sorting.

I thought Vlaar was very strange.

First half he was very sloppy. He did get clattered fairly early which he seemed to struggle with at times. Lowton is a persistent liability it must be said. Clarks been better than he was yesterday too.

Second half however I thought we defended a lot better. Vlaar was a back to normal after the break and we looked fairly solid from then on. They hardly troubled us aside from a few speculative efforts.
