Sorry to spoil things, but we didn't relegate Cov in 2001. Had they won the game at Villa Park, they would still have gone down, as Derby chalked up a win at The Theatre of Diving Twats on the same day.

Not that Villa COULD have relegated Cov in any case; teams are relegated over a season, not because they lose 3-2 in B6.

Mind you, I was there and enjoyed it anyway...

A bit like the myth that Denis Law's back heel goal for Man City sent Manure down in the seventies. They would have been down anyway due to a Small Heath win the same day.

Small Heath stayed up on the last day? Surely not.

Didn't they even get promoted in the 70's on the last day, having not been in the promotion places all season until then?

And we're the spawny ones.

I was at that Coventry game that I was sure relegated them. Their fans smashed up the William Hill shop on Witton island. I was a relief manager for William Hill at the time and was sent to manage the place on the Monday after the game. I think the chippy opposite got badly turned over too.

The weirdest bit was half time & they were 2-0? up & the next thing you saw was WM finest running up the touch line to stop them kicking off on one another....odd breed!  JPA goal was one of the loudest cheers I remember

I am pretty sure we drew 1-1 with Coventry in the last game of the regular season in 1989. Their lot briefly ran on the pitch then but quickly thought better of it. That was our last game of the season but due to Hillsborough West Ham still had to play Forest and Liverpool and if they won both games they would have stayed up at our expense. They beat Forest 2-1 at the City ground with a couple of Leroy Rosenior goals and then went to Anfield where they went a goal up. At that point we were down and West Ham had survived. However Liverpool ended up scoring five to save us.

As someone said it’s in their minds that we relegated them.  They really do hate us and cannot wait for the opportunity to play us.  I was happy for them to think that we did and judging by the carnival atmosphere when Merson goal went in which was one the loudest roars I’ve ever heard everyone else thought we were relegating them too.  I just remember it being one of my top ten favourite Villa Park games.

I have just watched the ten minute highlights of the game on YouTube for the first time in a long time.

Including footage of the guy holding up the 'We'll Be Back' sign  ;D

me and my Mom went to the 3-2 Cov game, we were sat in the lower DE stand right next to the Holte and can confirm the noise was amazing when JPA, Vassell(?)and Merse scored

Yeah Vassells came from a Kirkland error. Seem to remember Southgate doing his best Right Winger impression for JPA's.

Also Hadji scored a belter that David James did a weird technique dive for.

I remember the last game of 1991/92 when Cyrille Regis scored after around 12 seconds and one of them ran on and tried to stage a sit-in on the centre spot.

Also a few of there's were in the bottom right of the Holte, weren't there for long as I recall.

I was in the Holte that day. I seem to recall they all escaped onto the pitch pretty much the minute the game started. It was probably exaggerated by them when they were telling their mates at school on the Monday.

Didn’t even last that long.  They hotfooted it out of the Holte about ten minutes before kick off.

Fair play, just seen a piece on Central News about the former Albion players association calling vulnerable supporters who are shielding at home.  They have called about 8,500 people so far apparently.

A load of us went to Forest and stood in the home end for that one. Two of us went to Anfield and stood on the Kop. I’m sure Liverpool scored first but WH equalised before half time.

A Liverpool fan in front said “I bet the Villa fans are shitting it right now”. I couldn’t resist tapping him on the shoulder and saying “yes, we are pal”.

You’re correct Rosenior equalised and Liverpool didn’t regain lead until 25 mins to the end, then the floodgates opened up last 10.
