Er, is that really Steve Staunton? Last time I saw the poor fella he was taciturn and hapless as manager of Ireland. I can't imagine him being so verbose - in mouth or quill.

What gives, exactly?

If the AVFPA is run by a self appointed board then i would find that troublesome. all members shoud be elected and it seems transparancy isn't big on the agenda. That is if the letter is accurate.

The AVFPA couldn't organise a gang-bang in a brothel.

Can anyone in the know provide a balanced version of what's happening here? In 1 paragraph.

It would appear that Ken McNaught was high up in the AVFPA but didn't agree with how it was run. He quit on principal, despite being well paid for his services, and set up the Lions and Legends with Steve Staunton. A lot of former AVFPA players and former Villa players who weren't fit to play but showed their support are now part of the Lions and Legends. The AVFPA now appears to be made up of 'new faces'. Since Neil Rioch has been the main man for the AVPFA for years and is specifically mentioned in the statement, it would appear criticisms of how it is run are mainly aimed at him.

I am only summing up my personal conclusions formed after reading the statement. I'm not ITK. Although a few years back I wanted to donate a ton to the charity the AVFPA were playing for that day in return for one of the old stars shirts. When approached, Neil Rioch bluntly said no. I donated the money anyway and when the old star in question found out he seemed less than impressed with Rioch. He then went out of his way to make sure I got a shirt. That former player happens to be one of the ones who has now left the AVFPA to join the Lions and Legends.

In a nutshell, without any inside information, it would be appear that Ken McNaught wanted to take things in a different direction to those who have run the Villa Old Stars for some years and they obviously didnt like it. It would appear Ken has the backing of the European squad
who seem to agree with his ideas. Stephen Staunton (a touch of the Andy Coles it would seem!) has also got involved.

No doubt finance is the major factor in this disagreement or possibly ego's.

Its all rather disagreeable dont you think.

Interesting to hear what Neil Rioch has to say.

My mate played against Villa old stars a couple of weeks ago for the Harry Mosely charity, Staunton didn't even turn up and he was supposed to be there and he had been given a free car by MG

Interesting to hear what Neil Rioch has to say.

I reckon that a Solicitor might hear from Neil first, judging by some of the accusations that he may wish to challenge.
