I remember as a 15 year lad of Irish descent, being really excited by the signing and not being clear how we got him. Obviously the severity of Paul’s issues came out much later.

I know exactly where I was when I heard about it, as I was in a restaurant kitchen in Southern Germany. The lad who told me was a Liverpool fan from Bray, and he was gutted that he'd gone to Villa instead. He was right to be gutted.

Interview with Paul on Sky Sports PL Channel 402 tonight at 9pm. Saw a bit earlier, he clearly loves the Villa.

Watched it earlier and great to see him looking so well.  Only a relatively short one, but shame Alex Ferguson was discussed in it yet no mention.of either Graham Taylor or Big Ron.  Did mention Jim Walker though which was a nice touch.

That footage at the end where he was in a foot race with Les Ferdinand at QPR only to slide in, hook the ball back and just saunter away with it (usually accompanied with an "Ooh Aah Paul McGrath") brought back some great memories!

I like to take issue with the interviewer talking about his 'run of form' in 92-93, his run of form was from 89-96.

Of course typical SKY. Only the premier league exists. So nothing about coming even closer to a title in 1989-90, winning two League cups, or playing in two world cups.

Think it was supposed to be mainly about him winning PFA Player of the Year in 92/93.  Of course being SKY, there had to be some Manchester United content.

Although obviously he wasn't a Man Ure players in the Prem so it kind of rules out the "Only the premier league exists". It seemed to be more based on the 92/93 as the Player of the Season award but also seemed to be taking large parts of his book as well which I'm sure others can mention if it talks a lot about 89-90 or other bits. I also suspect the interview went longer but they had to cut it down.

Not that I think his problems caused us to lose the league that season, but I he did seem to think that was apart of it from his chat. To me it was more losing Dalian for a while and then relying on him being brilliant in his return.

...and, of course, Stephen Froggatt's beautiful crossing from the left that supplied Deano with a lot of his early goals.

Listened to 5Live’s  Monday Night Football today, they were talking about Van Dyk being the greatest premier league defender, a few other likely candidates were mentioned as well, Terry, Ferdinand, Vidic etc. To be fair, host, Mark Chapman threw Gods name in, the general consensus was that he was some player.
Nice to hear non Villa fans showing him some appreciation.

Chappers is a ManU fan so would remember him from his teenage years to be fair.

McGrath is better than all of them. Who could he pick as a partner to make them look even better - I'd vote Vidic or Van Dijk to be fair.

Probably another Villa legend, John Terry.
