I haven't listened for many many years, stopped listening when it became an obvious trolling operation just like the mail.Seem to remember a bloke called Tim Beech who I think was the guy behind scenes(sports editor?) but also occasionally presented, don't know if he's still there but if not maybe their transformation into Talksport is linked to his departure? He seemed a good presenter and not a wind up merchant bellend as they all seem to be now.
Anyway don't listen, you won't miss it.

Do they actually bother getting listening figures?!  I reckon it’ll be in double figures at this rate.

I listened to the phone in sometime late last year or early this year driving back from work.

Basically it was Call Me Franksy (who someone on here said is a Nose, not a Baggie) saying some bollocks like and a paraphrase '...looking at it now would Villa have been better off sticking with Steve Bruce. I am just putting out there....'

This is playground like bollocks.

He started out as Villa.

Some years ago it was obvious that WM's audience was getting older, so they had to go downmarket to get a reaction. They haven't stopped yet.

May be wrong Dave, but always got the impression growing up that BRMB / XTRA AM were more focused on Villa and Blues and WM therefore had more of a focus on Wolves. Albion and Walsall.

When WM suddenly had a monopoly on the football coverage in the area, it just meant more people became aware of their nonsense (though I would say Mark Regan is worth a listen when he isn't pissing about with Franks and Mike Taylor who covers Wolves is also decent enough).

WM used to be really good - they had presenters who let callers talk and didn't make the show all about them. Then when Tim Beech left they went down the shock jock path and the whole station became glorified hospital radio.

Even Wilford for a Blue nose was decent, but he has now descended into twatadom.  Last year - when we were having that crap run in the championship he was openly winding up a caller about us not liking it because we are going to spend years in the championship.  Remind me how that turned out.

Is Alex Russon related to Tim Russon - who used to be their sports anchorman.

Not that I'm aware of. Ask him when he's on here next.

Didn't he also try to somewhat defend that moron who hit Grealish as well?

Can't recall that - I think defending the club springs to mind in that they wouldn't be able to stop every single person with an intention to invade the pitch.  As has been demonstrated twice before against us.

This new guy really is rubbish. For some reason last night they played a Shania Twain record about 15 minutes in, never known that on the footy phone in before.

Indicative of a lack of content and/or callers. It's days are numbered and the writing has been on the wall for some time now. Like a lot of the content on 5Live, 606 is a struggle and now rendered unlistenable with Savage and Sutton paired up. So much football coverage on radio and TV has been "bantered" into submission, from the tiresome "he's hit the beans on toast" and "it's a desmond" schtick on Soccer Saturday to the idea that ex-professionals arguing the toss using severely limited vocabulary and knowledge is in some way illuminating or entertaining.
It takes the viewers and listeners for idiots and is patronising in the extreme.

Yes. Add to that the choice that people have now, WM has not kept up and assumes that they will have a core of local listeners who will call in, that pool is getting smaller. Plus, talking down your biggest club doesn't help.

Never really understood why WM went to 5 phone ins a week. Started listening in early 2000s and it was just Friday in those days and after the games on a weekend.

Simply isn't enough content to justify 5 nights a week and I can see it being cut down eventually so they've probably put this Henry guy as an excuse for when they do it.

Don't understand why they just don't give it to Wilford who's always covered SHA but seems reasonable with us or Mike Taylor who's probably their best commentator (not a fan of the Albion guy who's a little bit too much like their fanbase).

5 phone ins a week?!  I had no idea. That must be a cost cutting measure. Far cheaper to have people call in and fill airtime than pay royalties for music.
