No need for shots at Bully.  He was a terrific striker and if memory serves we were linked with him several times.

Just a few..

I think he bottled out if seeing of he could succeed in the top divison, but there aren't many clubs who can say they owe their existence to one player.

I think he wanted to remain there,  finish his career and become a Wolves legend. I don’t think he bottled it. He did alright for England in the few games he played.

So so waiting to hear Pat the oh so sanctimonious Wolves fan after his righteous babbling. Let’s mind that gap eh?

He really is a loathsome bore isn't he?

Same shit every week all delivered in that pompous humourless tone. I will never understand why anyone ever feels the need to ring in to a radio show to tell everyone else how great their team is and what they're going to do to someone else's team day after day. That goes for the Villa arsehole who calls in all the time as well. Utter bellends
In my opinion people who partake in radio phone ins are usually people who can't get their point across in the Pub. Each to their own though I suppose.

He certainly earned enough with them.

Bully, who at no point ever finished as top scorer in Division 2. Legend.

Yeah but he did score lots of goals against teams like Darlington and Hartlepool.

There will be plenty on here of a certain age who will have as one of their all-time Villa heroes a bald, has-been centre-forward who scored most of his 30 goals for the club in Division 3.  It's not who you score against that matters; it's what those goals mean in the context of your club's history.

I've probably told this story before so will just summarise. Me and a mate (both Villa fans) met Steve Bull in the casino on Broad Street a few years ago and had a good chat with him at the bar. He was a sound bloke and happy to talk (whilst his Mrs was on the casino floor). Anyway I asked him how close he really came to joining Villa - he basically said he was up for it it and in his own words his bag was packed and he was ready to go, but the deal fell through.

Come on, there's plenty of things to mock them about but I'm not sure that's one. Bully scored over three hundred goals for them. If you can't be deemed a club legend with a record like that I don't know what you have to do.

Completely agree. And the fact the Albion sold him for a set of Dolly Allen albums is very funny too.

Also agree.  Had a lot of time for Steve Bull growing up as a kid even though he played for another team.

Same here.

It always seemed that his ambition was to get that final promotion back to the top league, and then his work would be complete. Having ripped through divisions four and three they just got stuck in division two for far too long. If they'd gone up within a few years I reckon he would have moved, but it was like he was always giving it just one more go...and then suddenly he was old and the chance had gone.

And you're right, he certainly didn't look out of place in his England appearances. I think he would have scored goals at any level.

Even his own family couldn’t stand him. Allegedly.

Such a shame because I’m sure he’d have been brilliant for us.

I think I've mentioned this before on here but I remember an interview with him when he talked about not having moved. He said  that the nearest he came was when Coventry bid for him. He was interested but ultimately stayed where he was happy and that 'it's not like it was Liverpool or Villa' that he was turning down. Always liked him since.

Sir Graham gave him a last shot at the Premier League so he spoke to Coventry, whose then-manager BFR said "He's on more than I am".  Stayvie stayed at Wolves and when news of the talks became public Sir Graham was pushed under the bus.

I think he is definitely a legend for them considering his goals however he was a crap footballer and never good enough for the top tier.
