I'd like to point out that I suggested him in the transfers thread on 23 May, before there had been any links with him! He just seemed like a good fit.
Celtic have been linked with Aleksandar Tonev of Lech Poznan in the past. He is 23 and can play as a winger, and could be an option to give us some formational flexibility. Based on his age and the level that he is currently playing at I would have thought he would fit our recruitment strategy - but the Polish league might not be on Lambert's radar.

So if we were to go back in time, it's a bit like saying Barcelona have been linked with Neymar of Santos in the past. He is 21 and can play as a winger, and could be an option to give us some formational flexibility. Based on his age and the level that he is currently playing at I would have thought he would fit our recruitment strategy - but the Brazillian league might not be on Lambert's radar.

...but we haven't signed Neymar have we?

Well well well. This is already better than January.
(not a pop at our Sylla, I like him.)
Welcome, Aleksandar!  And more to come, mmmmm.

Villa seem to have stolen a march on the press with this one.  Official site was the first to conform the signing.

Can I refer the honorable gentleman to Dan's he signed last Saturday at 07:30 post.

First time for everything, but I wonder if the OS have printed something in the story of Tonez's signing incorrectly.

It reads "Stiliyan being here wasn't a massive influence on me coming here..."

Surely he would have said he was a massive influence

Maybe he means it was the ambition and focus on young players that attracted him rather than Stan being here.

I hope it is 3 years with us having the option of an extra year. Villa should use this type of insurance policy more.

I took it as he was so keen to come to the England, and to a big club, that it didn't matter so much that Stan was at the club.

That's how I read it too, I think he's saying he was attracted by villa and the premiership rather than petrov.

I was more meaning in the "official" sense than the ITK sense.

yeh, maybe but players are always very willing to pay tribute to players that influence them and inspire them. I'd have thought Stan would have been a huge influence on Tonev in the discussions given his almost legendary status in his country.

Bit harsh TV, I think FatSam has every right to be a bit pleased with himself on this one. Indeed I was having a gander through the main thread to find the post as I remember commenting on it at the time, but could not find who it was. Fair play on a good call FatSam.

alright, alright, sorry Fat Sam. If indeed you did suggest this on May 23rd, then fair play to you. I'm delighted you were right as I think this player will be very good for us.
