I'd argue Milner has gone backwards as a player.  He was emerging as 'the new Gerrard' for me in central midfield, but since going to Man City has rarely played there, if ever.

I would'nt say he's gone backwards exactly, he just has'nt moved on from where he was. Was'nt he voted in the team of the season prior to leaving us? Yeah, he was great in that centre midfield for us. Whenever i see him out wide for them and England, it just seems like a waste.

I'd agree with that clampy , he looked better in centre midfield for us although he does play a fair amount of games for city and their fans seem to rate him highly due to his always giving a 100% which several city players seem not to do.

He could have progressed at villa as a player but i understand why he went to city .

The waste of Jimmy's talents is one of my bugbears. He has no real reason to regret his move, championship & FA cup medals, regular for England, but he was sensational for us in centre midfield in his final season and as far as I know has never been played there since.

again complete pie in the sky, but the icing on the cake this summer would be to have him back in midfield coupled with all of these exciting new young kids that are joining us. With the possible exception of getting another more senior head at CB, we would have one of the best spines in the league with Guzan, Milner and Benteke. And even Okore and Vlaar isn't bad at all.

I have no interest whatsoever in what James Milner is doing now and what Gareth Barry is doing now.  I have no interest in what might have been.  They used to be Villa players.  Now they aren't.  End of.

This, on the other hand, is a thread about Stiliyan Petrov, who is still associated with Villa.

At Wycombe, the Villa fans conducted the 19th minute applause.  Now that Stan's illness is in remission and he has joined the coaching staff, is it appropriate or inappropriate to end this admirable acknowledgement?

I would like to see it retired now, Stan knows how much we love him.

I agree that it should not be carried on this season, whilst appreciating what a marvellous thing it was last.
However, as has been shown today, there are some who will continue and they will be joined by others who will feel they are being disrespectful if they do not join in. I think Stan should make a statement thanking the fans but asking for them to put all their effort into getting behind the team during the coming season.

His lad is the absolute spit of him. There'll be no Jeremy Kyle DNA testing in the Petrov household! ha ha.
