Sorry if I've missed it but can anyone advise me about this train from london bridge to south bermondsey? Do the old bill escort us onto it at lb, or is it every man for himself?

normal rush-hour train to illustrious places like kent and croydon. every 10 minutes or so.

old bill usually herds away fans onto a train after the match.

It's a four minute journey. I imagine you stand back and see what sort of arseholes are getting on. Probably full of all sorts of punters anyway. Getting back after the game is more controlled.

We played West Ham on Good Friday 2000 I think. Fairly sure it was a scoreless draw.

We did. 0-0. The game before Christmas.

Birchy hit the bar and they brought a couple of busloads.

Yes i remember that. I was sitting in the Trinity and if i remember rightly, Birchy's shot kind of swerved in from the right hand side and bounced off the bar. It was the highlight of the game i think.

We also played Bristol Rovers at Eastville in the FA Cup on a Friday night. Won 2-1. The season we went to West Ham in the quarter final.
God,just remembered this one.Five of us  decided at 4.30 to go last minute.Went in a black cab ,cost £50 -which was a lot then .Proper old ground.Managed to bunk back on the special.

Tranmere always used to play Friday night (we played them up there in Division3)

Can I just a few words of respect for those fans who are going tonight. Ten years ago I would have been there too but well done to you. With all that's going on, or not, at the moment and with the weather forecast for tonight, I've got a lot of time for you guys.

I just hope the club and players respond tonight. Enjoy the game.

Well the leopard hasn't changed its spots. They are still a load of pond life down there.
A handful of Millwall had paid into our end and slapped a couple downstairs before being chased out of there. I don't know the full story but two were behind us and smashed a seat up when we scored. They disappeared to meet up with a few other idiots just before half time.
There were at least half a dozen bottles thrown at the linesman / our players and a hot drink was launched in the direction of our disabled supporters.
The coaches finally got on the move at about 2230. Just ten minutes before we had heard that some of ours were still being prevented from getting onto the railway station due to 'home supporter activity'.

I noticed the two behind us.  When we scored one of the two had what can only be described as a growling contorted face and he was kicking the back I'd the seat in front of him.  Thought it was a bit strange so when they scored I turned round to see him grinning.  Soon after he and his mate left (approx 30 minutes into game).

The three chaps (definitely Villa as were on our coach) in front of us went down a few minutes later to get something to eat and then Jon (not sure about him) went down.

All came back reporting that there had been an incident downstairs and a couple of villa fans had taken a bashing.

We were told that Millwall had waited in the toilets to catch anyone going down for an early piss. No doubt there will be either confirmation or otherwise but a couple had bloodied faces and a load of Villa went charging off just before half time under the stand.

When i heard that they were selling tickets on the door, i thought it sounded a bit iffy and could cause something like this to happen.

Also, there were a lot of people in our crowd tonight who you knew had'nt been to a game for a long time. There were some very dodgy looking fella's lurking around who just did'nt feel like 'Villa' if you know what i mean.

I know exactly what you mean, Clampy, but cup games tend to be different, support wise.  Still, after the incident I  witnessed and the follow up, I was clocking everyone with suspicion.

After that incident, I had a look around behind us to see if there were likely to be any more of them around us. Things like that are virtually unheard of in the Premier League but commonplace years ago, especially at shit holes like this. They are that vile down there that you can imagine them descending into the sewers after the game.

I was stood downstairs by the food kiosk waiting for my mate to fill his face before the game and some of the lads walking past me just looked very very dodgy. I've never seen so many flat caps in my life at a match before.

How did you get to the game, Clampy? Difficult journey as it was, was glad we went on the coach.
