Conflicting emotions.  After the utterly shambolic first half hour we could have been 5 down without complaint and thought we'd do well to keep the score respectable.  In light of that, a draw is a bonus, it just doesn't feel like it because of how it happened.

The equalising goal seemed to bring the belief back, and we were much better second half, arguably the better team.  We gave more support to Benteke and Weimann, who both did very well, and got them worried.

Much as I don't rate Clark, he and Herd did win an awful lot in the air second half.

Gunner Halsey wasn't giving us much, as usual, so I was amazed when he gave the pen, even though it looked plum.

I think Holman could have done better when he let the wide player waltz past him for the late goal.

3 points could have seen a bit of daylight between us and the drop spots but I guess we have to be thankful that we've stopped the rot and got a point at a difficult place to go.

Well summed up.

Better 2nd half, the midfield decided to track Swansea runs ( which was nice). A good draw against a better team, away from home.

Just a thought - the linesman flagged for the penalty. Wonder if Halsey would have given it anyway? I'll watch with interest on MOTD to see Halsey's initial reaction

The average age of the starting line up was 23yrs, 119 days. That says so much about where we've been, where we are and what we desperately need.

Sat in traffic a lot happier.

Very pleased with the point, although in the circumstances you'd have liked to have hung on for the win.

We could have been 5 down inside 15 minutes but weren't, so fuck them.

We sprung into life when the impressive Andi (definitely good enough) got booked for dissent. We suddenly started putting some time into the lace curtain fuckers.

Second half was very even.

Halsey was giving them everything.

Vlaar back, beat Ipswich, smash Bradford, new players in. Give Southampton a spanking and then do the New Coventry.

Fucking c'mon on Villa!

Right we now have 11 days to the next league game. Surely that must be enough time to bring in a player or two and / or get some players back from the treatment table.

That Southampton game's gonna be huge!

I can't figure out what on earth team we're going to play away at Bradford / v Ipswich to be honest. Who plays in midfield? Bannan and Delph? Jesus

Do we sacrifice a real chance of silverware? I think we should be more worried about the league. Was hoping we'd be going into the semi with some 21-24 points so we could afford to field our best eleven.

after 15 minutes I'd have taken a one nil defeat, we were that bad.
Pleased with the point and the fight shown in the second half.

Gutted Westwood got injured.

It  just shows how lopsided our squad is when a kid from league two comes in
and is (arguably) our best option in the centre.

Still can't believe how long Bannan had to wait to come on.
Awful there from the referee. But he did give us a pen!

Swansea should have been out of sight by half time.

They were not and it gave us something to build on.  That's football.

Following the previous three games, confidence was low and they just had to hang in there.  To come back from going a goal behind to the point of looking the better side in the last 20 minutes shows a determination that has to be admired, not just bring up the negatives all of the time.

We are in the fight of our lives with a bunch of young players.  Get behind them sometimes and not knock them all of the time.

I hope the result doesnt paper over the fact that we did not want the ball and did not want to play football. nigh on every time we played 1 or 2 passes then twatted it long to Benteke to try and do something with. All of the early promise of Lamberts passing and possesion football appears to have evaporated and I dont know why...

It's pretty obvious isn't it? Their confidence is shot. Hopefully today will help a bit. Looking forward to some light relief in the cups

Indeed.

You could also say Liverpool should have been out of sight after 30 mins or so at Anfield, but they weren't either.

Strikes me we have a chance to take a positive from something right now. We'd have to be utterly nuts to grab that now, and hope we can build on it.

We have Ipswich in the FAC at the weekend, which is infinitely winnable. We then have a CC tie away at Bradford, which is even more winnable. Win those two, and we've got Southampton at home, a fixture we could approach with a bit of positivity.
