We need to understand that, despite today, there will still be plenty of poor performances and disappointments this season, it isn't just a continual progression up the table.

We just need to give the bloke time. I can't believe anyone can't see what he is trying to do, and how he is trying to do it.

If he gets backing in January, I reckon this season could get very interesting, but either way, we have got to be patient and put our trust in him. He's changed the way we try to play the game immeasurably in less than half a season.

If we now go and get tonked next weekend, we need to understand that this is an ongoing process. We sank a long, long way last year, it's a long way back. It is for Liverpool, too, if you look at the way they are.

Looking at RAWK today, their fans largely don't seem to understand this, and can't accept they've got a major rebuild job on. Our fans need to make sure we do, and that we do our best to help it, not pile on pressure where we don't need it.

Precisely he needs time and provided we survive this season, that'll do. The young players are really developing quickly.

I am so happy after yesterday I hate that team more than any other so it is so good to beat them like that at their place.

I thought our kids did amazingly well especially Baker he has really stepped up I really like the look of him a proper centre half.  Benteke was outstanding as well I will never tire of watching the goal he set up I must have watched it 100 times already it is just beautiful.

In fairness, that's a perfectly reasonable prediction from Redknapp there. He didn't say we're rubbish, he just thought Liverpool were better. It's nice for him to be so wrong, though.

Despite all the stick Lawro gets on here, I thought he was fair and accurate in his assessment. Villa were 'all over the place' for the first 20 minutes, possibly from nerves he said, but when they got through that unscathed, their confidence grew, their defending improved and they kept Liverpool out with total commitment. Then Shearer chipped in with his fondness for big, bustling, bullying centre forwards and lauded Benteke. Very fair I thought. Apologies if someone has already mentioned this - haven't read the whole thread.

He might have been fair in his assessment, but Dan Walker absolutely hammered him on the show last night.  I've noticed over the years that Lawro takes himself very seriously and hates it when someone has a laugh at his expense.  His face was a picture last night, especially when the presenter made fun of his shirt in the closing part.

What amazes me - in hearing / reading the media comments - is that they all focussed on our poor away record duing 2012 but no one to my knowledge referred to the 4-1 away thraipsing of the EPL's form team, Norwich.
A simple check on the match facts from Tuesday - and the acknowledgement that Rodgers' teams play fairly open - would have perhaps caused a little more media balance and perspective.
I really hope that we turn Chelsea over next weekend - obviously - but particularly to show that yesterday was as much about Villa playing well as Liverpool underperforming.

had to miss most of the match as we were due to see the The Hobbit, what a result!! Well done to all concerned

Saw Lawro on the end of MOTD this morning and thought he reminded me of the Goblin King

Benteke is the best CF I've seen at Villa since the early days of Andy Gray

Same for me, except I thought the Goblin King looked like 'Arry.

Agreed. We should be so good that we'd be bored about winning at Anfield.

Regarding Liverpool, I said it on the day he joined them, Rodgers hadn't proved himself to take over a club like Liverpool, his days are numbered.
