My Grandad (an Ipswich fan) came up the Holte with Dad and i about 12-15 years ago when we played Blackburn.  Tim Sherwood scored a corker from about 30 yards and my Grandad applauded, I could have died of horror, thought we were sure to get a pasting.

couple of my bluescouse friends rang me up after we beat them at goodison with youngs last minute goal seconds after they had equalised to tell me it was one of the best goals at goodison that year, they couldn't see the funny side of moyes still gesticulating to the villa fans tho as the ball was just going past howard.

Matt Jansen's superb long range effort for Crystal Palace against us. We were 3-0 up at the time but it deserved applause whatever the score.
I remember applauding that one. First time I applauded an opposing players goal.

2 stand out games for me.

1988 v Liverpool in the Cup - Barnes and Beardsley scored crackers and lots of fans in the packed Holte End clapped the second. This was possibly their best ever team but we matched them for an hour (when we were in Division 2)

1989 v Everton - I think we were 5-0 up and they got a consolation and loads of people cheered. In fact the whole ground cheered. Classic game that one - McGrath and Cowans in midfield together on one of the few occasions.

I might be mis-remembering this, but was that (Everton) the game where Kevin Sheedy smashed the ball at Chris Price's face from point blank range knocking him unconscious and the paramedics had to come on to stop him swallowing his tongue? Strange I remember that incident and can't remember any of the goals!

I applauded a goal by Ted Mcdougle for Bournmouth too many years ago (third division days) classic diving header

I remember we all clapped that one. Funny thing though, I remember it as absolutely brilliant from at least twenty yards etc etc. I watched it on You Tube the other week and it weren't that special, or that far. Goes to show what we were used to I guess.  Still, great game, great result, great atmosphere.

I can't say I've ever felt the need to applaud a goal by an away team, no matter how good it is. The most I'll go for is a grudging acknowledgement after the game when I've had a chance to calm down a bit.

I remember the Everton fans applauding THAT goal by Tony Morley at Goodison Park on our run to being champions in 80/81. I was standing amongst them down the side and there was a murmur which broke into applause purely from them appreciating the build up and the finish. They also clapped Villa at the end of the game. Those were the days!

Anyone care to find the goal and post it on here?

A bit later than that,  we played Everton at their place  (late 80's or early 90's)  and at the end of the game Neville Southall applauded the Villa fans.   Not just a brief, token gesture, applauding all four sides of the ground either.

There has been some wanky behaviour from that lot and their fans in recent years, but they're generally a decent bunch.  They seem to have gone beyond that weird phase of hating us, which helps of course.  Probably because we're little threat at the moment.

I remember us all being spellbound when Cruyff came with Barcelona - He was applauded off with genuine affection and admiration.
Don't remember their goals but our two in the last few minutes raised the roof.
