God how I miss Villa Park looking like that.  Whenever people ask whether a new ground would be an option or not, I am not that bothered in all honesty.   The Villa Park I grew up with (stood on the Witton End and slid down the bank after the game) has long since gone, so it wouldn't be that much of a hardship to head elsewhere.

In terms of the game itself, like a lot of people on here I thought that after that game we could definitely go on and win the title.  We bossed Liverpool from the off and that was the game that I believe killed off their challenge.

I think that was the first appearance of the Electronic scoreboards at the ground that day too and remember the crowd going up as 47,998.  Where were the other two that day?

Great memories !!

That was the Albion crowd. Liverpool was 47,960.

Thanks for posting, I really loved watching it! Probably the best I've seen that side play. Withe, Swain, Shaw looked excellent, absolutely brilliant. Souness looked bloody awful! Atmosphere was fantastic. Must have been wonderful. I've often been underwhelmed when I saw highlights of that side, probably too high an expectation, but I was really impressed watching that side.
