We do have a serious case of headless chickens about us. I was hoping Westwood would bring calmness and leadership from his description before he joined, but obviously he needs to get in the team first. The experienced players need to step up.

This is true. As Lambert should have said to Bent, you have to *take* responsibility. Nobody gives it to you.

Just seen the goals on SSN. I confirm the rumours that Di Canio is indeed a twat.

Oh I didn't mind it. A bit of fun. It'd be a shame if all managers/players did exactly what they 'should' do. It's for similar reasons that I don't mind Colin at Leeds.

Class finishing earnt the win tonight. Lambert nearly cost us by refusing to bring on fresh legs. Another limp, spineless display by Ireland, don't want to see the overpaid, burnt out player in a villa shirt again. The last minute winner was even sweeter seeing that prick Di Canio acting up on the pitch after the whistle. God I was glad it didn't go into extra time, it was fukin freezing.

Ireland set-up the first and was lively throughout according to 5Live.

He was fukin terrible. He also shirked countless tackles.

Are you serious?

Ireland set up the first AND played a lovely through ball to Gabby for the second.

This shirking tackles nonsense is the same sort of thing we used to hear about Downing, even when he was consistently our best player.

Very well taken goals (from both sides in fairness).

This habit of going to sleep for periods during games suggests we lack  a bit of leadership on the pitch - something to be addressed in January hopefully.

Petrov is definitely missed in that respect. I thought he was having his best season for a long while when he was taken ill.

I think Vlaar can develop into a good captain, but I also prefer there to be a vocal, leader-type in midfield, and if you look at the various combinations we've tried in the middle, none of them include that type of player.

Fair point if they had won, they didn't, therefore, it was inappropriate to make such a scene.

I'm with you.

It at least makes it all that bit more entertaining.

Warnock, di canio, holloway etc are all characters and the game lacks characters, too many bland managers like pardew, pulls, etc.

I don't know whether he will ever be back and if he is, whether he will be the same but he makes a massive difference to us. I've said it before but it was startling to me when during Houllier's reign, Petrov missed much of the first half of the season (when we really struggled) and then once he was back, the results picked up massively. The same happened last season. Once he became ill, we went from being a poor side to one that struggled to even score one goal let alone pick up points.

We all hoped KEA would be Petrov's replacement but instead, I think we have the perfect midfield partner for Petrov. Obviously there's a small problem with that. I think that's what we need in January - the actual Petrov replacement.

I would be amazed if Petrov played again after going through that, and at his age.

Sadly I think the only way we will see him play for us again is in a testimonial.

I don't think I even want Petrov to play for us competitively again, I just want to see him pull through this terrible illness and live out the rest of his life peacefully; away from the public eye. I have this image of his testimonial against Celtic in front of a Villa Park packed to the rafters within the next few years and I'd like to believe that will be it.

Exactly I've just looked at the highlights and saw his influence, to criticise him is ridiculous. He should be one of the first names on our team sheet every week, we're a better side with him in it.

Here's hoping he's done just about enough for Lambert to include him against Sunderland.

I'd be happy with that, we should be counting our blessings he's still around. I'd be proud to see him pull on the Villa shirt even if its just for 2 minutes of football
