Ferguson played for Rangers for years.

And fell out with them because of their disgust at him daring to marry a catholic.

In The Secret Footballer a run of games against Fulham, Wigan and Aston Villa is described as '9 points' if you are on form.

Ok, so he then says but start to look difficult if you are in need of a win but it does help illustrate how we have been seen within the game over the past couple of years.

Lambert will instil that winning mentality again and the rest can all feck off.

Big deal. We've been worse in the past and we've always bounced back.

To whom he was married when they signed him. Ferguson says in his autobiography that he left after being dropped from the team following the 1969 SFA Cup final.

He's on record saying his career at Rangers was affected because of bigots at the club didn't like that he was married to a catholic.

He also said in his autobiography that it made no difference. He apparently dropped an absolute bollock in that final which cost Rangers the game and that was it. Why did they sign him if his wife was a problem?

No idea. Perhaps they didn't know? He's certainly on record saying it was an issue though.

You really think Rangers, the big bad Defenders of the Protestant Establishment, would sign a player without knowing something so obvious? He said it mattered in a radio interview, he said it didn't matter in his autobiography. That he played in 41 games (less than half their matches played) over two seasons is probably indicative of a player who wasn't a first team regular and got moved on. I doubt Alex bloody Ferguson is ever going to say he wasn't good enough.

I don't think he ever claimed to be a great player. If someone like Ferguson says thre were bigots at Rangers who had a problem with his catholic wife I'd tend to believe him.

Didn't Fergie's brother support Celtic, which led to some difficulties when they were kids?

My understanding was always he left Rangers in the aftermath of his performance in the Scottish Cup Final.  Nice to know he drew on that experience and dealt sympathetically with Jim Leighton's poor performance in the FA Cup Final 20 years later...

So the defence of Rangers is now 'yes, we hate Catholics but we might tolerate you if you're just married to one'.

Anyone care to explain why describing the Irish in the north of Ireland as a subjugated people is nonsense?

Well I'd have thought having the vote was one step to not being subjugated?

Tell that to the catholic voters in Northern Ireland during the gerrymandering days.

Is that the vote they got after the country was carved up so the Loyalists always win?
